Re: Michael Clay
I saw this kid play in person, don't know how on god's green earth that Clay is only a 3-star on Rivals.com... in the playoff game I saw him in, there were about seven D1-Pac10 quality athletes on the field, and he was by far and away the best one. When I watched the Bellarmine defense, I was thinking "Who the hell is that jacked linebacker flying around the field, that is in on every play?"... low and behold, I find out he's an Oregon recruit

Re: Michael Clay
I know it has been mentioned before, but I really do think we should explore some 3-4 defense next year(s). If we keep stacking the LB's with the ones we have, that may be a good thing to see. It certainly wouldn't make us slower on D.

Re: Michael Clay
I know that all things seem to point to Clay being a Duck come tomorrow, but something isn't sitting well in my gut. About the only thing that could possibly sway Clay could possibly be our depth chart at OLB. Some are saying that Littlejohn is likely to get his first look at replacing Boyd at the same position. I realize that Clay will be just a true FR, but we do have quite a few bodies at OLB and BL likely committed to the Ducks, at the same position, while Clay was here. Now I'm not predicting Clay will choose CU, but I won't be shocked if something goes haywire tomorrow.

It is hard to be shocked by things going haywire anymore. It is more shocking when things actually pan out. That said, Clay would have to know that he would most likely Redshirt regardless of who else we get in this class. Most all of our LB's have to RS to learn NA's system.

I may just be forgetting / ignorant, but I can't remember the last true freshman to get any significant PT at LB.

Re: Michael Clay
Very true our D definitely turned up their game the last few games. We faced challenging offenses all year. One thing we need to remember is that we play in the pac-10. Not known for strong defenses, more like dynamic offenses. While NA is by no means perfect, or even good for that matter, he does get a little too much grief. We make him the scapegoat often times. I am not a fan of NA and i think that we could do much better, but we do need to give him credit where credit is due. We always step on D when it really really matters.duckfan96 wrote:NA has a system?? HAHAH Just kiddin. I, for one, thought that the D stepped up in the right spots the last couple of games
And to Karl...I cannot remember one either..not sure if there has been

Casey Matthews started last year at MLB (his true freshman year).

How many games did he start? I know he got some PT, but I don't remember him being on the field a significant amount of time.Phenom wrote:Casey Matthews started last year at MLB (his true freshman year).

Re: Michael Clay
I thought Matthews was getting closer to taking Bacon's spot anyway, but I forgot that he started as a true frosh. That really is impressive, none the less. He got injured the next game or real soon after he got the starting job or he would have started the last 4 or 5 games, I think... maybe 3 and the bowl game.ducksball wrote:He took over one of the last weeks of the year after Bacon got hurt.karlhungis wrote:How many games did he start? Re: Michael Clay
There's no reason that Clay couldn't start for 3 years and get solid PT after a RS year regardless of other LB's we have. If we have so many talented LB's, we'll run a 3-4. It's realy not that hard to do, it's just that we've had too many damn good DE's to not play a 4 front.

Michael Clay is legit guys. Don't be fooled by the 3-Stars on Rivals. He'll come in and compete right away.
