2012 recruiting

Post by Boom »

Is it too early discuss?

We will be losing 6 players after next season. The roster going forward should look something like

Austin Kuemper - PF - Soph
Brett Kingma - PG/SG - Soph
Bruce Barron - PG/SG - Soph
Jabari Brown - SG - Soph
Jonathon Loyd - PG - Junior
Martin Seiferth - C - Junior
EJ Singler - SF - Senior

So Altman has room for 6 more scholarship players..... assuming no one else commits to the current class. Does he pull a Kent and use them all next year or does he try to find a way and space it out a little bit? He might be able to get away with red shirting one of the incoming guards, but that might be hard to do.

So who are some of the potential targets for next season?

I know Landen Lucas will be a big target..... but I haven't heard much about anyone else.

They technically only lose 4 scholarship players after the 2012 season (Fearn and Elorriaga are walk-ons). I would suspect that Altman will try signing another HS or JC player this year to get to 12 players for next season so he'll only have to get 5 in the 2012 class. I think we'll see him try spacing the classes out with JC player to do that.

He'll probably go after Jordan Tebbutt, but I think he'll end up at one of the upper-echelon BB schools. There's a kid at Dayton HS in Oregon, Maika Ostling, that may get some looks. Other than those 2, there really hasn't been a lot of talk about 2012 recruits.

So maybe one more JC guy this year and one in 2012.

I wonder if he's still waiting on DeAndre Daniels before he goes that route.

We will definitely need at least 2 or 3 forwards/centers.

Every 5* center on ESPN's Super 60 list for 2012 lives between Texas and points east. 5* PF Brandon Ashley is a California resident.

4* 6'9"/280 C Zach Banner is from Lakes HS, in Tacoma Washington. He's a teammate of UW commit Tony Wroten, but is also highly sought after as an ESPN Top 150 Offensive Tackle.

So far the schools he's looking at are Cal and UW.

4* 6'11"/250 C Robert Upshaw is from San Joaqin Memorial HS, in Fresno Ca. Currently, he doesn't have a list of schools available.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketb ... ert-upshaw

"Upshaw is still growing and may end up a legit 7-footer. He plays with great heart and it appears he has the inner desire to be a player. Like most bigs he still getting used to his body and will need time to develop, but that shouldn't stop him from gathering high-major interest. If he continues to develop his skills and evolve as a player he should end up at the high-major level."

4* 6'10"/265 C Darian Nelson-Henry hales from Lake Washington HS, in Kirkland, Washington. Currently no schools of interest.

Nelson-Henry reminds us of current 2011 southern California standout Kyle Caudill (Brea, Calif./ Brea Olinda) in terms of skill, but Nelson-Henry is bouncier. Due to his savvy for the game, emerging skills, and energy level his recruitment should heat up during his junior campaign. His approach (mentally tough) to the game is outstanding as he battled some of the top bigs this summer and he held his own. Look for Nelson-Henry to get some Pac-10 looks during his last two seasons of high school.
