Women's Basketball
If you have seen them play, you have to wonder why they can't rebound. If you can't rebound how can you "run with the ball." Opponents get twice the number of rebounds per game! I don't get it?

Amazing that they can't considering they have some experienced posts who were able to rebound in previous years.

Westhead obviously wasn't a good hire. The lady ducks play no defense under him. There is no reason this team should be as bad as they have been this season.

Re: Women's Basketball
Are you being serious?
Westhead took over a 9-22 team and got to the third round of the NIT in his first season. He inherited two good players, and they both graduated after last season. He's playing this year with his own freshmen, with Bev's leftovers intermixed, and "Bev's leftovers" are not good.
Perspective, people. Perspective. Bev Smith ran this program into the ground, that's not something you fix in the blink of an eye.

Want to talk about a "Bad Hire?" Bev Smith was a "bad hire." Just because someone was a great player at the O it doesn't make them a good hire. EK and BS were hired for the most part because of their playing careers at Oregon and we all can see how that turned out.duckgrad99 wrote:Westhead obviously wasn't a good hire. Give Westhead a chance, if his teams aren't producing by his third season of recruiting, then judge him then, not now when he's forced to play with players who are not ready yet.

Re: Women's Basketball
Maybe not a "bad" hire but certainly over compensated. I believe he is the second highest paid coach in the conference (behind Sarah VanDerveer of Stanford) and only needs to live in Eugene part time. Last year I think they only won 3 road games (Wyoming, a horrible OSU, and USC). Time will tell, but I think PK made a mistake hiring his friend and making him one of the highest paid woman's coaches in the country.nogerO wrote:Want to talk about a "Bad Hire?" Well, I suppose one could argue his salary is too high, but does anyone really care how much the women's basketball coach makes?

Since the Athletic Department doesn't have unlimited income where would you rather spend an additional $200,000 to $250,000, Paul Westhead or Scott Frost?oregontrack wrote:Well, I suppose one could argue his salary is too high, but does anyone really care how much the women's basketball coach makes?

Re: Women's Basketball
Well, a football coach's salary will never be determined or affected by that of a women's basketball coach, so that's an irrelevant road to go down. I'm fairly certain about half of Westhead's contract comes from a separate deal with OSN, too.
