R-G article: Ducks prop recruiting door open

“Players have options, and we’ve got to be ready so we’re not surprised this spring,” Altman said. “We’ve got to keep ourselves in position to put a good ball club on the floor next year, so we’ll continue to recruit.”

Altman said he didn’t know of a current player planning to leave the UO, but what happened in the wake of his hiring last April has him prepared to deal with anything. After three UO players announced their plans to transfer last spring, another did so in the summer, another was lost to academics and finally one left to sign a professional contract overseas.

Probably more important to recruiting now is replacing next season’s six-player senior class, with either players who are currently high school juniors or possibly junior college transfers.

“We’ll spend a lot of time on that class and even younger players than that,” Altman said.

I would argue Altman knows very well who's transferring, but stays silent until the end of Spring term so the kid won't be hounded while he's still here.

That's what seems to be the popular rumor but nothing confirmed yet. I wouldn't be shocked to see Seiferth go as he looks to be the most expendable at this point. They only need to get rid of two if Altman decides to get another player for next season.

Are any of the current juniors on track to graduate early?

Sims would seem to be the most likely (Pac-10 All-Academic) but his accounting major may not let him go fast as other business-oriented majors. I haven't heard anything on how much Jeremy Jacob has done, but he's already been in college for a full 4 years so he could be close as well.

Sounds like Dana is expecting to get everyone back for next year and he did talk extensively about geting JJ back and healthy. Maybe a RS is in order for 1 or 2 players.

That means no available scholarship for Carlos Emory.
