To be fair, we do lose 3 of our top 4 scorers next year. And I doubt any of the freshmen outside of Jabari Brown will have a substantial impact for us. Ducks will do no better than they did this season imo.oregontrack wrote:Stop talking.Boom wrote:AgreedDarronThomas5 wrote:might be a blessing in disguise. It would have been hard to find significant minutes for three legit PGs next year. The team rotation might be better off with just just two (Loyd and Barron)
Next year is likely another throw away season... I would prefer we start developing the young guys.

It's a relatively big loss... he would have been our 1st or 2nd best returning player next year...UOducksTK1 wrote:Kinda surprised by the lack of concern about Armstead leaving. I know he wasn't very consistent this year, but he is our best perimeter defender, and he is by far our best passer. And honestly, when he was playing good, he is one of the best PGs in the Pac-10. Unfortunately, we only say him play is great basketball about a quarter of the time.
Pretty random for sure. I think we'll be OK, but it still sucks to lose a potential senior.
But I would rather watch us struggle with Loyd, Barron, and even Kingma on the floor.... than watch a team full of seniors go to the CBI again.

Biggest wildcard for next season is going to be if Jacob can come back healthy. If he is, then he should replace quite a bit of Catron's scoring and rebouding.

he would have a season of eligibility remaining, though he will be required to sit out next season if he goes to another Division I school, which is his intent.
“A redshirt year might help me,” he said.

Completely agree. I don't get the point of the "blessing in disguise comments." It's a stretch to view the losing of a veteran point guard as a good thing. I guarantee Altman didn't go home saying "Thank God, now I have some room for some scholarships," or "Now I can start my freshmen." He wouldn't have saw the floor this year if it didn't benefit us. Without a doubt he brought something to the table this year, something unique, and we were better overall for it. Even extremely talented PGs learn from lesser talented veterans. While he may not be a program changer, he is a significant loss and should be recognized as so.UOducksTK1 wrote:Kinda surprised by the lack of concern about Armstead leaving. Re: Malcolm Armstead out?
I know this is sort of cheating, but my opinion on the concern of this transfer hinges on how much better Loyd is next season. His job is to get everyone involved, and this isn't necessarily a "plug and play" kind of deal. If Loyd progresses and can run the offense then I'm not worried, though i think everyone would say thatUOducksTK1 wrote:Kinda surprised by the lack of concern about Armstead leaving. Re: Malcolm Armstead out?
Maybe part of the problem is Armstead wanted to red shirt, and Altman couldn't guarantee that... Depending on the severity of the knee injury, it is possible MA may actually need time for healing/rehabbing to get ready to play.
I wondered, late in the CBI Final, what was going on with Malcolm. He had limped off the floor at one point, and at times seemed tentative or cautious in his play.
There are some decisions we may never know the actual thought process behind.

Re: Malcolm Armstead out?
I doubt Armstead wanted to RS. From everything I heard before the year started, if the coaches had thought Lyod could carry the load they would have said good bye then when he was granted his release. His personality wasn't a good fit for this team, and ghat happens. He's a solid player but not tops on the team by any stretch. Good thing is Lyod really started to mature late in the year, and we have a solid backup coming in. It also sounds like Joseph can handle the point if needed.
Also according to mops Emory has now been offered by Texas and Ok St but is solid to UO. He's a very good prospect and other schools have noticed.

Re: Malcolm Armstead out?
I found this evaluation from ESPN a little amusing, in light of Emory's current offers. (Obviously, Emory has developed significantly at JC):
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketb ... rlos-emory
May, 2009: This power forward is very athletic and has a great body. He loves to take the ball to the basket and explode to the rim. He scores using his quickness and strength even through taller defenders. He lacks the size and ball skills to play at a high level. He is aggressive on the boards and runs the floor well and was active in transition.
Wasn't the same said of Catron at one time?

Re: Malcolm Armstead out?
Im also one of the blessing in disguise bandwagon people. Sure he was going to be a senior with experience.
But from the first game he played this year he didnt seem like he wanted to be here. He was going to transfer last offseason. Im not sure what made him stay but he didnt want to be here this year.
He seemed to half ass it most of the time. Would toss up wild shots out of left field. Could ONLY go left. Im not sure he even knew he had a right hand. Was a team cancer in the locker room. (Rumor has it)
He only played when he wanted to play. This goes for both offense and defense. He may have been our best perimeter defender for about 10 minutes per game. He had quick hands and thats about it.
Im fine losing him and turning the reigns over to Lloyd.

Re: Malcolm Armstead out?
This just speeds up the transfer of the team to Loyd, instead of him waiting another year to fully take over. If Loyd can work on his shot and cut down on the couple bad passes he makes a game, then I think he's a fine for what Altman wants from a PG.Howry wrote:Im also one of the blessing in disguise bandwagon people. Re: Malcolm Armstead out?
I'm wondering what is going on "behind the scenes" with this team. Armstead is definitely gone, most or all the walkons departed before the seasons end, and now I read rumors of possibly another couple players considering leaving? Altman is still openly recruiting 'just in case' although most coaches are more discrete. Can anybody shed some light on what's happening?

I think it's fairly common when a young team changes coaches. I wouldn't be overly concerned unless players he recruited starts to transfer away from the program.maxduck wrote:I'm wondering what is going on "behind the scenes" with this team. Obviously, we have heard rumors concerning Williams and Seiferth, but to this point, have nothing concrete to hang go by.

Re: Malcolm Armstead out?
If indeed Williams does transfer, it would mean that only 4 players from Kent's last team will possibly have graduated from Oregon: Catron, Jacob, Sim, and Singler. That would be kind of sad to see almost none of Kent's players stick around until the end of their careers.
