University of San Diego Basketball Players Charged

Post by ducksvb6 »

Breaking news in San Diego tonight reports multiple past players, a past coach, and possibly a current player shaved points. The gamblers involved reported used winnings to finance illegal drugs and other illegal activities. Seven arrested in San Diego as well as others out of state. FBI reports USD is not a part of the investigation.

The term "lack of institutional control" might be an NCAA subject soon. Great school, a real bummer.

Yikes and I just applied to their grad school for next fall.

So weird to see smaller schools have problems like this, bummer for sure.

This sounds similar to what happened at ASU in the early 90's. They'll be punished severely by the NCAA.

It seems logical, in a twisted sort of way... In the mind of some, the gambling is less likely to be noticed at a more obscure program, than at someplace like Arizona or Indiana, so the chances of discovery are perceived to be far smaller.
Autzen Stadium... Where great teams go to die...Hard!

I thought we were point shaving when we played San Diego in the Pape Jam a couple years back.

Give me a shout when you arrive in San Diego. We have a large Alumni Association Chapter. It's not unusual for 75 to attend a football watch party. They are held at a bar literally at the beach.

Several hard core Ducks attend the fall high school games when UO commits are playing. We have a great flock and we attend every Ducks sport played in San Diego. I counted 85 Ducks at the USD vs UO baseball double header a few weeks ago.

I'm actually leaning a bit more towards Utah because they have a really neat dual program that I'm interested in them. I'm visiting Utah next week. But San Diego has a strong Computer Science program, so we'll see. Either way, I'm in San Diego for about 3 weeks every other summer, have lotsa family there.

If I decide to go there, I'll certainly let you know.
