Metcalf still waiting on visits
Things continue to move at a much slower pace than expected for Compton (Calif.) safety Chris Metcalf. Three weeks removed from signing day and the athlete has yet to take or even set up an official visit.
Metcalf, a longtime USC commit, didn't sign on signing day and one of the reasons he gave was because he wanted to take more of his visits. The visit to USC was the only trip he had taken at the time.
"I'm still talking with some schools but no visits just yet," Compton coach Calvin Bryant said. "I just talked to Oregon today and they want to trip him in. I've talked with Washington and Cal as well and of course USC is still in the mix too.
"Right now, the important thing is Chris has his test score and he did well. He feels good about that. We'll get something set up but don't really feel any big hurry to do that. It will happen, maybe as soon as this week so we'll just see how it all works out."

With Hamani taking off we should have another Scholly spot too. I say take him, it saves us from having to get another top safety next year.

I thought that this was just a rumor at this point. Has there been any validation of it yet?dthomas=ddixon wrote:With Hamani taking off

Re: Metcalf still waiting on visits
I certainly trust the coaches if they really want him, but the word out there, via Scout reporter Brandon Huffman, is CM didn't have a very good SR season. He committed to SC way before his SR year and also was invited early to the Army AA game when, according to Hoffman, the Army guys were competing with other AS games to get early commitments to attend their games, etc.
Huffman says Metcalf is a tweener. A little too big and slow for safety and a bit small for LB (played there as SR). If the Ducks end up with him my bet is LB based on Brandon's info and the fact we recruit a lot of guys this size. My concern is we have a bevy of players who fit this size range and position. If Metcalf is really an eventual LB then I don't see the need. If they envision him as quick enough to be a big Rover, then that makes more sense. Given this info and how CM "regressed" as his SR season went along (according to Huffman) it's no wonder USC may have cooled on him. Reports are that he didn't initially sign with the Trojans due to his SAT not being sent in or something along those lines, but it seems pretty obvious that SC isn't going to be cryin' the blues if he opts elsewhere. Time will tell, but this may not be a simple case of "any player good enough for USC is good enough for the Ducks........."

Thanks MacDuck that makes sense, lets just hope we get him and he turns out to be a good one!MacDuck wrote:I certainly trust the coaches if they really want him, but the word out there, via Scout reporter Brandon Huffman, is CM didn't have a very good SR season. Re: Metcalf still waiting on visits
n/m just saw he is going on his mormon mission..
I understand its highly frowned upon if he doesn't complete his 2 yr mission and he is obviously passionate about his faith which is always good...I personally don't agree with many of the mormon teachings, but its his life, not mine, and hope he has a fun and safe trip and is back in yellow and green in 2 years.

Well in reference to that opening up a schollie for Metcalf... I'm not a mod and I barely even care, but we do have threads all about Hamani. I think you might have better luck with discussion about him in one of those.DmoneyDuck wrote:not really, someone mentioned stevens leaving in this thread
