LSU's Russell Shepard potentially ineligible

Post by woundedknees »

TigerSportsDigest.com has learned that the situation with junior wide receiver Russell Shepard may be a compliance issue related to his off-campus housing arrangements.

This could be a situation that's been ongoing perhaps as far back as the start of his sophomore season. If so, there could implications for Shepard in regard to future eligibility.

This situation has me a little worried…but the thing is he didn’t move off campus until after the 2010 football season so I don’t see how it could go back to the start of his sophomore season. None of the local guys will really comment about it right now, at least the ones I listen to. They all say the same thing, “we don’t know anything so we can’t say anything.” They did say that they from the rumors they hear is that it is similar to Ridley’s situation last year before the bowl game in that they aren’t sure if there is a violation but they want to clear it before it goes any farther. Timing could not have been worst for us though.

How refreshing.... Our local media shoots first and if you're lucky they may ask questions later. Guilty until proven innocent every time.

Oh I'm sure there are ones that have a hair trigger like the national media on stuff like this...I don't have the stomach for them so I don’t listen to them.

Wow well that would suck for LSU. Be good for the Ducks. Sit down Russel Sheppard.

Well…we know a little more information now. Seems like the scenario is innocent enough, I REALLY hope he isn’t ruled ineligible over this crap.
• One thing after another. LSU wide receiver Russell Shepard, a former all-universe recruit in line for a breakout season as a junior, is reportedly facing eligibility issues over an off-campus housing arrangement that may have violated NCAA rules. According to Tiger Sports Digest, Shepard moved off campus for the first time this spring with a girlfriend, who is also an employee of LSU's athletic department, and the payment arrangement they set up "may have been out of compliance with NCAA rules regulating how much money student-athletes receive and how they are supposed to spend it."

"LSU quickly shot down rumors of a suspension last week when Shepard failed to show for his scheduled rounds at SEC media days, but he could still face a short-term suspension from the school or the NCAA to start the season — possibly helping to offset the suspension of Oregon's best cornerback, Cliff Harris, in the season opener. Sounds pretty innocent... I really hope the NCAA doesn't make this a big deal, they hit BSU pretty hard for some minor "sleeping arrangment" crap too, although IIRC it involved a potential recruit....

I doubt Sheppard had any idea that he was breaking the rules. It would be a shame for him to be punished for something like that..

Looks like all he will have to do is give the money back to his girl, Miles does not expect Shep to miss any games or practice.

That's good, not for us Ducks obviously, but for the kid. It's bizarre how the NCAA works....God forbid the guy scores a sweet deal where his GF is helping pay the rent. As it stands for me, that dynamic usually works the other way around hahaha.
