More rumors of Pac 12 expansion

Post by maxduck »

The fallout from the Texas/ESPN association continues. Buried in a blog post regarding Texas A&M heading to the SEC is...With the recent rumors that Tech has been talking to the Pac 12 about moving West (and likely taking OU and OSU with them).

Are LSU or other SEC fan sites discussing possible expansion?

Missouri and the Kansas schools would be available, and I'm sure Colorado State, among others, would jump at the chance. Lots of options.

The Big 12 is just crumbling because of Texas' greed and arrogance. It wouldn't surprise me if Texas ends up as an independent within the next 10 years. The dissolution of conferences due the inequality of media contracts and revenue inequality is what could really be harmful college football as a whole. On the brightside, it could also make the BCS useless in its current form and hopefully would force a change possibly to a playoff system that is maybe not so corrupt.

I've noticed a sudden increase of rumblings that TAMU might move to the SEC over the past week or so.

I don't think the SEC would have a very difficult time going from 12 to 16 teams with the drop of a hat. At least that's basically what the commissioner said at SEC Media Days.

College Football as we know it now will be totally unrecognizable by 2021.

The SEC will probably want Va Tech, but I really doubt they will leave the ACC. Clemson may be a possibility (they don't really fit in very well in the ACC). Not sure I could see the SEC going to 16 unless they take some Big East teams. Don't see schools like Georgia Tech, FSU, Miami, UNC, etc jumping to the SEC. Don't see Oklahoma wanting any part of the SEC. If/when the Big 12 falls apart, expect Oklahoma/Oklahoma St to end up in the Pac.

Frankly, as a person that has followed football in the south since I was a kid (raised by a FSU alum). I always thought Clemson was in the SEC anyway. FSU has tried in the past to Join the SEC but FU is dead set against for competitive advantage reasons. Many big programs were independent so I could see that becoming an option again.

My predictions:
PAC 12 additions: OU, OSU, TXtech, Missouri, BYU (that ind thing is going to blow up in their face)
CUSA additions: Baylor, ISU
SEC: A&M, Kansas, Kentucky, KSU
DASL1 Rings: '93, '94

Kentucky will rejoin the SEC??? I know it was a simple mistake, but I'm curious who you meant to say.

I just don't see Kansas and Kansas State joining the SEC. I think either the Big 12 or Big East would fit them more, although the Big East is a bit of a stretch.

BYU will never get in the Pac 10, nor will any religiously affiliated school (except Notre Dame). Kansas and K-state won't join the SEC. Kansas is a possibility for the Pac and the Big East. K-state will probably end up in the Big East.

SEC: A&M, Kansas, Kentucky, KSU
I don’t think Kansas and KSU will find their way in. SEC are going to want teams that have a good media market and that will increase the chances of having a team in the running for National Championship. I’m willing to bet money if we add two the other will be either NC, NC State, VT, FSU.

Honestly i think all of this is just message board fodder started by the Long Whorns mouth piece Chip Brown.

Once they got slapped down on the NO HS games, Chip Brown starts up the rumors about TU and the rest of their bitches to come to the PAC. Personally i think it's just another ploy to get A&M to stay in the Big 12. One of his latest tweets was the TX Legislature is getting together to discuss the SEC move.

I'm not sure where the TX legislature is currently on aTm moving to the SEC, but I thought they've always wanted the Longhorns and Aggies in the same conference no matter what, due to their rivalry and history together. If the Aggies leave, there will probably be a mass exodus and the Big 12 will cease to exist as a viable BCS conference.
