RT @caneswatch: Ponzi schemer, felon and general scuzzball Nevin Shapiro about to lay the hammer down on UM in a Yahoo story, so I am told.

Good news that it's possibly not Oregon involved in a big-time scandal.

It had better be good to be level 10.

Nevin Shapiro, who contributed $150,000 to the program and temporarily had a student lounge named after him, pleaded guilty last June to running a $930 million Ponzi scheme and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Shapiro reportedly is ready to release a tell-all book that will include the names of dozens of UM players who allegedly broke NCAA rules. Some of those expected to be named are current players.

It sounds more like some guy stirring up attention for his book than some "level 10" bomb. We'll see. I saw that they said some gifts he has documented on are worth something like $2000. Again, not earth shattering stuff. Oh well, if this takes the ducks out of the spotlight, then I will be happy.

A guy who is on the hook for nearly a billion dollars is writing a tell-all book and it's supposed to be earth shattering and believable? Yeah, not likely. I see it as a money grab but everyone said the same thing about Jose Canseco. I guess we will just wait and see. If it turns out to be true, how crappy for Al Golden?

In light of this story, I read a few older articles that had to do with Shapiro. He would frequently have parties where Hurricane football players would go, and many other athletes in Miami like Joey Porter and D-Wade. It may not be true, but it seems believable.

As for this being a ten, I'm not sure about that. Don't get me wrong, Miami has tradition, but they haven't been nationally relevant since they lost that National Championship.

Are we sure that this is even the level 10 story though? Wasn't Craig Robinson supposed to be breaking that one? Can't we still hold out hope that it is Texas? Even if just a little hope?

You know, I think you are correct to be skeptical that this is the ten that Robinson was referring to. He doesn't even have a piece about it yet, and Robinson wouldn't botch the breaking of a story this badly.

Yeah there was supposed to be a question mark in my original post. Might not be the fabled "Level 10." I really have no idea, my bad on the misleading post.

When I told my dad, a FSU alum, that miami was in trouble, all he had to say was "Again?" After he elaborated, it really is not surprising to even a passing observer. This is a school with a long, long wrap sheet. They are just a dirty, if not successful, program; always have, always will be.

It sounds like Charles Robinson will be releasing his story today. I still don't know what team it is about.
