Does Texas already have 19 verbal commitments for 2010?

I am having a hard time believing it, but if it is true I wonder if we should be trying to promote one of their assistants. If it is true they must be doing something other than ripping their shirts off.

Eh, they are bringing a bunch of kids from Texas. It is what it is. Oregon will likely never be able to pull that off because of the lack of talent in the near proximity of the school. A lot of kids that commit this early are doing it, because it's their dream school that they grew up watching, or proximity.

It's called being in Texas. If the state of Oregon had 50-60 4* & 5* kids every year who grew up huge Duck fans, we'd be doing the same thing.

Wow... 6 Rivals 4* players, plus Colt McCoy's little brother... That would be a decent start to any class.

they have 6 rivals top 100 players already.
They have already had two junior days this year. THAT'S the difference IMO. Those kids show up and commit right then or soon after. We haven't had one yet, we should be working on our second right now IMO.

Haven't they been in the 80's & 90's temperatures? That would be a bigger sell in March than 30's -40's & rain.

If that was the case then Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame shouldn't bother until July.

It is obvious that they are doing something right. Even if one says 25% of these kids will defect before it is all over, Texas coaches will have a lot more time to spend on each of the few remaining kids.

It's simply being the top team in the state of Texas. Most of the kids grew up Longhorns fans & the second they get the chance they commit.

15/19 are now listed as 4 stars? The other schools in Texas and in schools surrounding the state of Texas are all benefitting from this states talent. Still seems to me that there must be something to learn from this. Do we need to prep/train (brainwash )our in state kids better from a young age ie better Duck sponsored youth camps? Advertise more in the state of Texas? (a billboard right next to UT campass? SARCASM) Or hire some coaches with some great connections? More/earlier junior days like Jhop suggests?

Most of the early offers are also take it or leave it. Only the cream of the crop (Seastrunk, Jeffcoat, 5* players who could go anywhere) can usually commit after the second junior day. And sometimes the cream of the crop gets left out because Texas is full by the time they are ready to commit. While Texas will miss out on some tope shelf guys that develop late they get pretty much every recruit they want.

Mack Brown basically changed the way all college coaches have to go about recruiting because of the way Texas started recruiting when he got there.

And where the class stands at this point with 15 4* is more 4* than any class last year so it's just a ridiculous class at this point if those rankings hold true
