Boise St
Ok, I know lots of duck hate with them, I get it. I didn't like the late hits either, but haven't ever been able to hate them. That said, the Big East just offered them and I would guess they jump at it as fast as possible along with Air Force, SMU, Houston and Navy and 1-2 others.
Here is my question, say they go to the Big East and continue to roll and they get their academics up to at leas on par with OSU and the Arizona's, does the Pac 12 offer them in say 5-10 years along with say Air Force, OU and OK st? At the end of the day it's all about adding strong football programs, and a perennial top 15 team is as strong as it gets. Air Force would bring an entire military backing with it, a branch with 500k members (basically like a huge alum base). And obviously OU and OK st are who they are.

Re: Boise St
I'm guessing that OU and OK St. will be settled elsewhere by then, if not already in the Pac.
It seems like, if Boise St. to the Pac was ever going to happen, it would have been in the last add. In 5-10 years, we'll probably have added a couple of other teams that didn't need time to grow.

Do universities typically "get their academics up?" It seems like most schools simply are who they are. I don't see Boise ever joining the Pac.buckmarkduck wrote:Ok, I know lots of duck hate with them, I get it. I didn't like the late hits either, but haven't ever been able to hate them. It takes decades and decades to get your academics up. You need to build up a program. Also Boise brings absolutely nothing outside of football. 35k seat stadium, middle to lower tier market with a small alumni base. Not a player at all in the olympic sports and what if Chris Petersen leaves Boise? The Pac would be left with possibly an awful team in every sport. It'd be like if they offered Fresno ST. a slot back in 2000 when everyone thought they were the next big thing

Boise was pretty good under Hawkins as well weren't they?lukeyrid13 wrote:It takes decades and decades to get your academics up. You need to build up a program. Re: Boise St
Yeah actually Boise has had a pretty good run on HC with not only Peterson, but Hawkins, Koetter and Houston Nutt. Seems like somebody at BSU know how to hire HC better than the clowns and UCLA or Arizona. Maybe that's the guy those 2 schools should really target since Peterson isn't ever leaving Boise for anyone but UO. I know Koetter and Hawkins didn't do well at their next stops (though I thought ASU pulled the trigger way to fast on Dirk even though he is an arrogant ass, who fires a guy that goes to 4 bowl games in 5 years) BSU has been pretty good with whoever they plug in at HC.
What's funny is three of those guys have direct ties to the state of Oregon with Hawkins having been the HC at Willamette before going to BSU, and of course Koetter was our OC before Tedford, and Petterson was a WR? coach for UO.

Peterson was the QB Coach for the Joey years.

I don't think Boise St. is even considered a research institution?
Compared to OSU
http://oregonstate.edu/main/about
Oregon State is the state’s Land Grant university and is one of only two universities in the U.S. to have Sea Grant, Space Grant and Sun Grant designations. Oregon State is also the only university in the Oregon to hold both the Carnegie Foundation's top designation for research institutions and its prestigious Community Engagement classification.
As Oregon’s largest public research university, with $261.7 million in external funding in the 2011 fiscal year, Oregon State’s impact reaches across the state and beyond. With 12 colleges, 15 Agricultural Experiment Stations, 35 county Extension offices, the Hatfield Marine Sciences Center in Newport and OSU-Cascades in Bend, Oregon State has a presence in every one of Oregon’s 36 counties, with a statewide economic footprint of $1 billion.
It's no contest

Re: Boise St
That and the fact he has a great relationship with Phil Knight and most of the big wigs around UO.

Well I'm sure his wife would think Columbus OH is a pretty nice place if the price is right. We're certainly not a "dream job" for him though.UofDuck wrote:Because he was an assistant coach at Oregon and it is rumored that his wife misses Oregon...
On a side note, could you imagine the Civil War banter with Peterson and Riley? Bor-ing!
