Breaking News: Penn State Working On Joe Paterno's Exit

Just saw it on ESPN. It said the Board of Trustees is working on Joe Paterno's exit as coach and that it could happen within "days or weeks".

Honestly, I feel a bit saddened that his stellar coaching career has to end under these circumstances. However, I'm sickened by that situation and I have to agree (for once) with George Schroeder that the only way for this to "go away" is for the university to "clean house". Those are my quotes, not George's.

Ya JoePa has won a ton of games but this is FAR more important then that. I understand if someone has a bit of leeway cause of past accomplishments but that should be irrelevant in a situation like this. I am totally fine with Penn State getting rid of everyone in that program.

I’m so torn about this…I have idealized Joe Pa as the idealistic head coach and educator. I feel that he failed his moral obligation and did not act in the best interest of the young boy/boys that was abused…I don’t know all the facts and as usual will hold judgment until I learn more…but in this case I don’t think I want to learn more.

While he may be a legend in PA, it still doesn't absolve him from any moral obligation he had to follow up on the allegation he brought to the school's administrators. This is going to tarnish somewhat an otherwise stellar career, but the school needs to distance itself from any involved in this whole situation. It's going to be a sad day in CFB when Joe Pa is no longer coach at PSU.

I agree…it is sad that a man that devoted his life to education has failed to put the best interest of a defenseless child about the school.

That is what makes this so hard to stand in his corner and support him staying. After reporting something in 2002 and not hearing anything back within even 6 months, you would think he'd go ask about any investigation and even stop the guy from coming back into the facilities. But Joe Pa did nothing to follow up so he's almost, if not the same, as the administrators who covered it up.

Sandusky also admit in 1998 to PSU officials and campus officers that he fondled two boys in the shower....So JoePa and the should absolutely have NOT given Sandusky the benefit of the doubt after hearing McCreary's story in 2002.

Well, I can't judge anyone, especially without knowing all of the facts, but I will say that I won't be surprised to see multiple lawsuits coming in the near future toward PSU, Sandusky, his foundation and possibly even Paterno himself.

By the way, I've heard since I started this thread that another young man, victim #9, has now come forward.

I just hate hearing things like this. It almost makes me want to cry.

On the Herd today, he say the 1998 incident happened on the PSU campus also. They also said he still had an office on campus until 2 weeks ago, and was told he just couldn't bring kids on campus. WTF is wrong with these people in happy valley.

This makes me angry on so many levels... I was abused as a child (Physically, not sexually... The bruises were bad enough.), and have some young relatives whose "Dad" is currently serving 8-12 in the Oregon State Pen for child sex abuse.

Those kids are going to be in therapy for years.

This whole situation makes me sick, before I knew the details I was giving JoePa a pass...screw that now this type of crap should never have happened after the first person saw/heard what Sandusky had done. Lets get real here, if any one of us saw this happening to a child I would beat the living hell out of that piece of sh!t and say he slipped on a peice of soap...how they didn't react do something/anything imediately is beyond me!

One of the things I got asked when I was a corrections deputy was if I would have issues with supervising an alleged molester... ?

I told I had two kids of my own who9 I would protect to my last breath... Of course I would be able to do the job.

Doesn't mean I had to like it.

Closest I ever came to having a riot on my hands was when a group of inmates got hold of an uncensored newspaper, and realized the guy down the hall had just been convicted... I thought I was in deep sshhi... !

Yeah…I live next to Angola Penitentiary, the last thing you want to be is a convicted of a “sex crime” and end up in there. Especially when it involved a minor. The guys ALWAYS find out…probably because certain guards let it slip.

Alright I'm going to be that guy and somewhat support Joe Pa. I may have my facts wrong as I've literally read 40 articles on this in the past day and if I am wrong, please correct me. And maybe I shouldn't say that I support him, I just don't feel that he should be getting crucified in the media the way he is. First off, the cops and officials who declined to arrest/pursue Sandusky after he admitted to molesting two boys should take a ton of the heat. Also the Children's group/non-profit who were notified in 1998 that Sandusky was being investigated for assault/molestation but didn't ban him until 2008 is just as complicit. Don't get me wrong, this whole thing is an abortion of morals, ethics and general human decency but I don't agree that Joe Pa deserves to be crucified the way he is. Many different people screwed up in many different ways for it to reach this level yet Joe Pa is the one taking a majority of the heat. My biggest issue is the Joe Pa did what he was supposed to by reporting it to his "superiors" and they erred by not immediately banning him from campus and going to the police. I don't think this absolves Joe Pa from his moral obligation to follow up and ensure that his reporting this issue didn't fall on deaf ears. I don't want to get into the "he should have/if I were him I would have done this" game because I wasn't in his shoes and that seems to be what the media/everyone is doing. It took a lot of screwing up and potentially covering up for it to get this far to which many different people should be held culpable. There just seems to be so many layers surrounding this story and in my eyes, Joe Pa, while potentially culpable, did what he was supposed to do. I have a hard time killing a guys career because the people "above him" failed to do what was expected of them. Again, this doesn't mean that Joe Pa shouldn't have followed up or taken action of his own (kick Sandusky off campus permanently or something to the like) but the fact matters Joe Pa did what he was supposed to do and the people above him failed.

Now feel free to kill me. Also I must note that my opinion may change pending more information coming out, because let's be serious here, us as Duck fans should know to wait until all facts are known prior to jumping to conclusions.
