Re: Pujols
Well, it never ceases to amaze me that all these athletes end up taking the contract that might offer more money, but in a state with outrageous income taxes. It's why LeBron was smart to go to Miami and Carmelo and Amare are stupid for going to NYC. Same for Fat Albert Haynesworth when he took his $145M to DC rather than Tampa. I know the Marlins took their offer off the table, but FL has no state income tax and as every study will tell you, sales taxes affect the poor most. Not to mention Albert is also probably 2 years older than he says he is...

Re: Pujols
Someone has already done the comparison between the contracts from STL and the Angels for cost of living adjustments/taxes and found the contracts they both offered were roughly the same. Smart move by the Cards to let him go since he's near the end of his career and there's no real need to hamstring the franchise for the next 10 years. Yes, the Angels will get about 2-4 good years out of him, but signing him and Wilson today have made them really inflexible. The Cardinals will probably struggle as they find a replacement for Pujols, but they have a lot of young talent and now cap space to fill the void over the next couple of seasons.

Quality of life when you make millions is also a consideration. After living in the mid west I can tell you it is so much better in So Cal, especially if you have lots of money to live on. Lets see Newport Beach, or the humid, or cold Mississippi River. I still joke about that there are two weeks a year of weather in the mid west. One week in the spring and one week in the fall.

depends on what you like though too. Me personally, I wouldn't live in SoCal unless I absolutely had to.soduck wrote:Quality of life when you make millions is also a consideration. Not sure you could get me down there either unless there was an absolutely killer job offer, but I'd still not retire down there. I personally like lots of trees and green scenery, none of which you find much of in SoCal. Plus, you have earthquakes, wildfires, high pollution, and droughts.Duck07 wrote:depends on what you like though too.
