if Bama wins the NCG...does that mean a split title? And isnt that why the BCS was invented in the first place. ALtho I saw where some voters said it wouldnt matter if bama won they would not vote bama as #1. Huh? If they are #2 and win...and they beat the #1...wouldnt they be #1? I dont get it. Playoffs anyone?

If Bama wins it will likely be by more then 3 points so I think you may see like a 70/30 vote but unless Bama wins on a fluke/controversial play I think they'd get the majority of the #1 votes

I wouldn't be surprised if the AP had a split national championship if Bama wins, they would probably love to stick it to the BCS every chance they get.

Everything we are hearing is that the AP will likely vote LSU #1 for various reasons despite the result of the games. One has to remember that the Ap and the BCS are two separate titles and the AP is not bond to give theirs to the winner of the BCS national championship game.

What are these reasons you may ask?

1) LSU’s body of work this year (including beating Bama at home) already makes them the team that deserves the AP title.

2) If Bama beats LSU it would be a 1-1 split in the two games that have been played and therefore a wash…thus given #1 LSU would be more deserving.

I don't think it's that simple Reasons you may ask?

1) If LSU loses, even in a rematch, they will have showed a chink in the armor that everybody has placed upon them. Sure, they are a dominant regular season team, but losing in NO to Bama will put doubt in people's minds that they couldn't win the big one, when it counted, when the pressure was on. Would they deserve to be anointed under those circumstances?

2) Wins over Oregon and West Virginia (on the road) are impressive as hell, but they were early in the season. Both of these teams played extremely well in their BCS bowl games and a loss by LSU now, might make people think again about when LSU played them.

3) The first win against UA, albeit at Bama, was due largely in part to inept kicking. Bama hits even one of those FGs, and it could have been a different result. Again, if LSU loses this rematch, people may start reflecting on those FGs, knocking LSU down a notch.

I could easily see Okie St. getting votes if LSU were to lose, deservedly or not. Voting for LSU in a loss is just ridiculous in my mind, since the stakes are all spelled out for them. Win and you're the champ...lose, and your opponent is. If you can't win under those circumstances, you don't deserve to be #1 IMO.

That being said, I see LSU destroying Alabama in this game. There's nothing that would indicate that Bama will have success against LSU unreal collection of defenders with an uncanny nose for the ball and ability to force turnovers. LSU is truly a team for the ages due to that defense.

This. I heard on the DP show earlier that it was likely if Bama even won by 7 that LSU would still be voted the outright NC. I am not saying I would disagree with that. What I am saying is that is INSANE!!! What I mean is there is NO guessing....NONE...who the champion is in ANY sports playoff system. The discussion itself makes my head spin. In this scenario LSU would be voted in due to the quality of their wins. Again based on the crappy BCS I wouldn't disagree since it is the system itself that is totally out of whack. Please save our sanity and give us a playoff!!!

Villanova lost to Georgetown twice (basketball) during the regular season in 1985 yet defeated them in the NCAA championship game. Nobody questions their right to the title, which is the way it should be. If Bama wins they are the national champion, period!

Using that mentality, Oregon really did win the title last year.

Uhm…I wouldn’t use the word hoping. I don’t know anyone that is “hoping” we get a split. We are all hoping for a straight out win and from what I hear on the radio most of us do not want a “split” title.


However…this scenario is not the same as the USC screw up. USC did not play in the national championship game that year, hence MY problem with it. That pill would have been A LOT easier to swallow if they had play in the final game…still would of hurt going down but it easier still.
