If you are referencing my point about over-population, you'll have to make a better analysis of it than that.

What are your thoughts on the book of Job? Personally, I find it sadistic that God would entertain Satan like that. If he were a person in the United States caught doing that he would be brought up for multiple felony charges. As Carl Jung famously said "Is it worth the lion's while to terrorize a mouse?"

The only guaranteed form of birth control is abstinence... For most people, abstinence is far more inconvenient than the potential consequences of not choosing that course of action.

Would you prefer to live under this rule?

"The policy limits couples to one child. Fines, pressures to abort a pregnancy, and even forced sterilization accompanied second or subsequent pregnancies."

"It is not an all-encompassing rule because it has always been restricted to ethnic Han Chinese living in urban areas. Citizens living in rural areas and minorities living in China are not subject to the law."

Didn't think most of you would...

Making elective pregnancies off-limits for payment by any government source would take away the main source of debate over the issue as well.

People should really have to think about the consequences of having unprotected sex and not rely on the government to correct it. You got yourself into the situation, you should have to deal with it yourself since it's a personal, not governmental, matter.
The rhetoric being fed to people is that Planned Parenthood uses Federal funds to pay for abortions and that is absolutely 110% NOT TRUE. I agree that the individual/individuals (yes, men should be held accountable for the pregnancy too) need to find the funds on their own & not have the government pay for it.

I would like to see birth control free for anybody who wants it. Assuming people are going to be abstinent is naive at best, especially teens. Why not educate them that abstinence is best but give them the tools to prevention? Just my opinion of course, but I'll never understand why people keep burying their heads in the sand. Face it head on!
So I have to pay for other people having sex? Abstinence is seriously not that hard. It's called self-control. I've practiced it to this day and I'm 22. I've also been with my girlfriend for 10 months. If both parties are serious on abstinence, it's very doable. Unfortunately, our world is so sexually immoral and have spurned God and His moral laws. If no one had sex outside of marriage, the world would be perfect sexually! Little to no diseases, no hurt or heartbreak. Beyond ideal. But you are right mfr, that's probably not going to happen. But I still don't see why we shouldn't aim for perfection. And if parents and schools strongly taught abstinence as the first choice, you'd see pregnancies drop tremendously.

And again, I'm not paying for anyone to have sex. If they want to have sex, they need to pay for their actions and buy their own birth control pills. If you can't afford it, then don't do it. Lol really not that hard.

Should we then teach how to do drugs and cope with it? This world is all about tolerance and supporting it, instead of nipping the problem in the bud.

Even if you don't agree with abstinence, I don't see how you think my tax dollars should be going to a 16 year old high school drop outs who work at taco bell and has no responsibilities. I've worked my butt off my whole life, putting siding on houses for two years, studying 5 years at college, paying off debts, yet I should be paying for someone who is lazy and adds nothing to this world? Ridiculous.

My 2 cents.

I second that motion! But seriously, the two party system is awful and horribly inefficient.
Wait, so your not in favor of checks and balances, rather you would replace this system with....what? A monarchy? Dictatorship? Socialism? Whats your replacement?
Do you even know what checks and balances are?

I never said you would pay for it or the government for that matter. It's a dream of mine to have it free or at least very close to free. There was a day, not long ago, that my insurance company would cover Viagra but not birth control and bc was not cheap. It would be nice to have the pharmaceutical companies take less profit off of birth control for the social good (like with polio, flu vaccines, etc.). Like I said, just on my wish list.

Lazy? Adds nothing to this world? Who says birth control is only used by 16 year olds that work at Taco Bell? Interesting choice of words when describing someone that could use assistance. Be careful because someday you may need some help & will thank your lucky stars that program is there for you. There are many people that work their butts off & still need some help, especially with health insurance. I'd say they add to the world & should not be considered gum on your shoe because they do.

It would be wonderful if abstinence was practiced first, but many married people might actually want to have a relationship with their spouse and ultimately have children down the road, so birth control is their best option and if it was reasonably priced, it may not be the typical choice of either paying for gas or birth control. That is a real life reality of the average American.

The way you are talking about birth control out, you are making it out to be that I'm the gum on the government's shoe. And yes, someone who smokes pot all day, sleeps around with multiple people, has no drive for school or college adds nothing to society. Because you are basically I should be bailing out those who do wrong and make bad decisions despite having every opportunity as me to have a real job and do something with their lives.

And have you gone to high school these days? Generalizing those who would use birth control to the uneducated 16 year old is seriously not too far off. And you said you'd like to see birth control to be free for everyone. Guess what, that implies people like me paying for it. So try to sugar coat around it, but nothing is free. Anytime someone says it is free. It means that people like me now have to pay for debts and for other people's mistakes.

Mfr, I honestly don't see how you could justify giving out birth control freely. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I frankly couldn't disagree more. Polio, flu vaccines, etc., those are all health issues outside of our control. Having sex is not inevitable, we have a choice. Again, I say, instead of addressing the real problem, we are trying suppress the outcomes from the problem.

Everything should be donation-based and private. If people want to donate to planned-parenthood and give birth control to everyone, go ahead!! That's perfectly fine. I'd rather give my money to people starving in different countries or being murdered for their religious beliefs. I want to support those who truly have NO choice or opportunity in life, not to those who have all the opportunities in the world. I shouldn't be forced to give my money to support abortions, condoms, birth control, etc.

And actually, mfr, if I ever made the wrong decision to have sex and have a baby, no, I wouldn't use any government help. I'd have the child, stick with that woman, and raise the baby. Even if I make a wrong choice, I still have the decency to make things right. Regardless of my financial stance. People have overcome much worse in life, I'm pretty sure I could work my butt off even with a minimum wage job and still make things work.

My American generation is so spoiled, lazy, and immoral. You probably don't see it as well, because you don't go to high school and college in these times. Instead of rewarding the lazy and immoral, why not reward the hard workers and those who persevere?

They already tried this back with the Pilgrims, socialism. Everyone gets equal distribution of food. At first, everyone worked hard and everything was going well. But some people started getting lazy, yet at the end of the day they got the same as everyone else. After a few months, half of the people decided to stop working entirely, because work or not, they'd receive the same food income. Uhoh, but what happens when people stop working? Less food gets produced, people starve, and to put it simply, people died and this failed miserably. Instead of giving people birth control to people, how about helping them find jobs to pay for their own. :D I would gladly give a few tax dollars to help a kid or two find a job to make some money.

In regards to having to pay for girls with babies I think that it's great the government wants to help but in some cases they help possibly too much. I know a lot of girls who got pregnant in their teens and none of them work because with the unemployment/oregon health plan/etc they get food stamps and money and all that they need for free. If they worked a job and had to pay for childcare and their own food they'd have far less than they would by not working and living off of the freebies.

Every generation has it's issues. Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't read or pay attention. Your generation is a bit softer because they have the luxury of electronic devices & social outreach that we did not have. We had to go outside to meet with a group of friends. It's a little different now of course, but that doesn't negate that your generation still has to put in hard work ultimately. It's all the same. Everyone has to find their place and that doesn't come easy unless Mom & Dad are footing the bill for you (which includes being on their health insurance).

It's noble that you would stand by the young lady if something were to happen, but not all men are of that caliber and to me, it's cheaper on society to prevent the pregnancy in the first place. Sex happens & that's just the reality of the world.

I would love to have my tax dollars go specifically where I want but I don't have that luxury. I do send money to Planned Parenthood and am very happy to lend a hand to those who need affordable health services. If you should ever get into a pinch of needing a health exam or condoms (that I'm paying for by the way with my donation), then I've helped make a difference in YOUR life.

Ridiculous.

My 2 cents.

Fair enough, thanks for being a good sport about it mfrduck.

i agree with this
I second that motion! But seriously, the two party system is awful and horribly inefficient.
Wait, so your not in favor of checks and balances, rather you would replace this system with....what? A monarchy? Dictatorship? Socialism? Whats your replacement?
Do you even know what checks and balances are?
This was already covered. If you had taken the time to go through the thread and read the posts, rather then skip through it all to post a smart ass comment, you'd see this question was asked, and answered. However, I still have yet to see my question addressed at all. If your going to discard the "two party system", what is your idea to replace the current system and how would it improve our political frustrations? If you choose to address this, I'm afraid I'm not sure it can be boiled down a sarcastic condescending blurb. You might actually have to think. Just warning you now.

I don't think we have a hope of ever leaving the two party system. There is far too much money and power involved at every level that there are too many bonds to break. Funny thing about them is that neither are what they say they are. Liberals are only liberal when it comes to their views but very close minded when it comes to religion for example. Conservatives are anything but. It's not the conservative approach to attack gays just because they're gay

Goodness, has this become quite the thread. Well, just to stir the pot, I'll offer my two cents.
I will say that it is dangerous to paint a portrait of morality based upon the ethos of a singular religious/ethnic/social group or class. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions certainly, but an effort to pigeon-hole all of society into a specific vision of micro-morality is inappropriate and altogether impossible. For instance, I (along with many millions of others) find nothing outrageously immoral about having pre-marital sex. I believe that those people feeling responsible enough to engage in the activity should also be responsible enough to deal with the repercussions; but I don’t believe it should be a religious majority’s job to dictate what the options of dealing with those repercussions should be. It’s the antithesis of individual sovereignty.
Some people think that Judgment Day is not coming. It is. There is accountability to the Author of life for these things.

The “Author of life,” in his/her/its various historical incantations, has been a major justification for some of the most heinous and insensible wars in the history of mankind. It’s also disingenuous to paint the United States as being uniquely drawn to a warring cycle. I don’t argue that U.S. history isn’t violent; it is. This violence though, isn’t unique to the U.S. It is a product of the nation-state, and world history is colored by the wars of different peoples over time.
And have you gone to high school these days? Generalizing those who would use birth control to the uneducated 16 year old is seriously not too far off.
I’m not too much older than you, and I disagree with this. I know plenty of good men and women who use birth control, are well educated, and contribute greatly to society. In fact, I know far more people like that than the other way around. They just don’t happen to share the same views on the morality of pre-marital sex.

On a side note: I enjoy these threads. Regardless of my level of agreement with posters, I do appreciate getting to hear what other opinions are out there.
