Last Thursday, my 4 year old Grandson slipped descending a swimming pool ladder... He caught his right forearm between 2 rungs, breaking the ulna bone (Open fracture that penetrated the skin) and dislocating the radius bone at the elbow. It looked like one of LMJ's injuries. He also appeared to have a mild concussion.
Repair required a trip to ER, nearly 2 hours of surgery, an overnight hospital stay, and a full arm cast.
The boy loves playin in the pool, fishing, basically any activity involving water.
The look on his face when his surgeon said "No swimming or water sports" said it all... He was devastated.
The smile he had on his face this afternoon, as he played in the pool, was glowing, to say the least.
He was able to go swimming, thanks to a product from a company called, "Dry Pro", who I found on-line while researching how to deal with the rest of our summer.

This company markets a line of waterproof cast and bandage protectors, which are endorsed by the NFL and NBA for use in post surgery hydro-therapy.
The product is made of a thick latex material, similar to that used in surgical gloves. It slips (Not easily) over the cast/bandage, and is tapered to seal against the skin, above the cast. A pump, similar to the bulb used to presurize a blood pressure cuff, is employed to remove the air from inside the sleeve. If the pump isn't working, the seal isn't right, so it is easy to tell if it is ready for use.
Pretty cool device to say the least.
What was even better, when I called Dry Pro, the sales rep informed me that 2 outlets in Eugene, ShawMed, and Gateway Medical. The cool thing is, not only did both stores have the item in stock, it actually saved money versus purchasing on-line ($12 for shpping, alone). Considering My Grandson will be in the cast at least 4 more weeks, $32 was pretty cheap, for an excellent product.
