The coaches are working on it. It's very early and we are lucky to have Grant already committed. Everyone knows that we need another back over 200lbs in this class, preferrably over 220lbs, to compliment the lightning backs like Grant that we're getting. It wont be long before people figure out that if you play in Chip Kelly's offense, you go for 1K.NCDucks09 wrote:I too can't wait to see this guy play as a Duck. However, don't we need a big bruiser like Blount or Snoop to compliment these next set of RB's coming in?

I like watching big backs play. But, I'm wondering if this offense needs a big bruiser to work? How many pro-set dive plays do we run?

That's a good point. I think people get too caught up in wanting a "big back" when really we just need a guy who has a bruising running style. A guy can be a power back without being 6'2 230.wheaton4prez wrote:I like watching big backs play. But, I'm wondering if this offense needs a big bruiser to work? Look at a a guy like Alston. He is more of a power back but since he's 5'8 200 people don't look at him as that type of runner. As long as we have a guy who has a bruising style, not necassarily body type, we'll be fine.

Re: Ethan Grant on WQAM The Ticket
wheaton4prez, Exactly. I remember Lynell Hamilton RB from Sacramento. He was in the bag until Onterio Smith made a mess of his official to Oregon. He landed at SDSU. Great kid, huge talent wrong school. I watched him play at SDSU. He was an upper tier D1 quality player at a JC quality school. Being in the right place at the right time can be as important as talent. Hamilton would probably have been another JJ at Oregon.
Eaton Grant and BB illustrate the range in behavior by HS athletes. Clearly we have landed two kids for 2010 with the right attitude....already Ducks to the core. Now we just need to complete the class. The attention Clay is receiveing worries me as over attention tends to skew behavior. I'm going to keep posting Devon Dunn for RB / WR / CB until I see his name on our radar again...even has the right intials DD.

Oregon is looking really hard at 6'1 180lb RB Devon Wright from Taravella HS . They will be watching him at spring practices, he is a very good one. He has led Broward County in rushing the past 2 years now. Ran for 200+ yds 5 straight games last year. Look for him to get an offer this spring.

Any idea why he isn't receiving more recruiting attention at this point?primedime wrote:Oregon is looking really hard at 6'1 180lb RB Devon Wright from Taravella HS . Re: Ethan Grant on WQAM The Ticket
He is getting plenty of attention but he doesn't talk to writers and he isn't going to any combines so scout and rivals have no way of getting the info. His coach doesn't want him getting caught up in the internet hype machine. But he has been getting plenty of looks and there will be plenty of schools flocking to see him this spring. I honestly don't know his interest in Oregon, he is pretty hush hush but just off gut feeling and hearing who the in state schools are going after I can see him making his way out of state. Oregon is not just going after the house hold names out here they are digging very deep and checking every corner for the best athletes they see. They are doing a great job right now of pulling these diamonds out of the rough.

Except now we are not only doing this in northern california but in the talent rich state of Florida. Our coaches are as good as any at finding diamonds in the rough.
