For some reason I thought Lacy was a Freshman or at least a Sophomore.

Probably because you didn't see him play while Ingram was there and he got very little time while Richardson was there, this is his third year and was his first year as a "the" guy

Strangely, we actually needed that many to leave to have room on our rooster to sign all 25 recruits.

After hearing the local guys walk through the names that would plug the holes I feel a lot better about it. Its pretty sick how deep LSU was on defense last year, and all but 4 of those guys were on defense and everyone looking to step up next year has game time experience with meaningful snaps.

We are in a similar situation now as we were when we played y'all.

I believe this is the third year in a row that the record for players declaring early has been brooking.

Too bad Mettenberger wasn't one of them. I'm always shocked by the seemingly underwhelming QB production that LSU gets year after year. I don't expect them to put up Tajh Boyd type numbers but you guys always seem to have game managers more than an offensive "asset" at the position. With the amount of high level offensive skill recruits LSU pulls in year-after-year and the WR/RB you put in the NFL, it really is a shame that you guys struggle to get better than a C+ QB.

I'm not trying to take pot shots at LSU, just curious as to what Bud would have to say about the issues at QB.

Well, see what had happen was....we have had some VERY bad luck at QB. The last major talent we had was JaRoc (yes he sucked it up in the pros but he was great in college) followed by Matt Flynn, who was a great "manager" but had the arm and talent to push the ball in tight spots and be a gunslinger when needed.

Then came Ryan Perrilloux, Chip Kelly would of given a pound of flesh for the kid. A true dual threat that would have been a Heisman contender, but he was a screw up and Les had to kick him off the team.
The year after Perrilloux was recruited Les didn't recruit a QB, he had bigger spots to fill and was comfortable with his redshirt freshman, Lee, that he figured he could develop, but when he had to kick Perrilloux off it forced him to start Lee before he was ready, that killed the guys confidence and he was never the same.

The next year JJ hit campus and had major promise, looked great at times and completely horrible at others hence the JJ/Lee split time debacle.

Then we drafted two more QB's. One was Sheppard, the number one athlete in the nation that year but didn't pan out as a QB. The other kid, name escapes me right now, came to campus in the spring and practiced with us but then left to be a 3rd round pick in major league.

Recognizing an immediate need we then picked up Mett, who has not lived up to expectations. In hind sight we should of picked up Teddy Bridgewater that year as our QB's for Louisville. See, Louisville and LSU was courting Mett, we were also courting Bridgewater, we went with Mett thinking that we would need him to start his second year and his experience would be a big help. If I’m not mistaking, picking up Mett also cost us Manzeil.

Then last year, Gunner Kiel committed but then backed out terrible fashion, and Liggens who got the spot after Kiel backed out didn't make the grades.

So that is basically LSU's QB history for the past 4 years. It all started with Perrilloux's departure, we were set backed and have been struggling since. I expect that after Mett, it will be Rivers. We are picking up two very talented recruits this year so hopefully our QB wows are over.
