Just couldn't resist. I'm most interested in which team people here will root for . . . or just root against less? . . . For me, my "knee-jerk" thought is easy: BSU all the way. OH, what a *thud* of a way for the Huskies to open their season of high hopes in their brand new digs! Hard to imagine an outcome anymore delightful to this Duck fan.
Of course, the problem with a Husky loss is that a golden opportunity for the Ducks SOS to get a boost, where a Duck opponent is facing a quality OOC foe, is lost. I guess I'll find a positive no matter the outcome.

Hate to say it, but Fuskies by 1, in triple OT, might be a better outcome for the Ducks.
Especially it the Donks go on a 10 game skid, immediately thereafter.

Huskies.
I can think of several ways a Doog win could help the Ducks and not any advantage to BSU winning.
A doog win helps strength of schedule.
Competition for a bowl spot with Washington will be settled on the field, whereas a BSU loss would likely knock them out of the running for a BCS bowl that they might be in competition with Oregon for should the Ducks be seeking an at large BCS berth like last year.
Washington fans can be shut-up on the field. UW and WSU's series domination over the Donks is tough for them to handle, particularly while Oregon owns both UW and WSU on the field.

Totally rooting for the Tubers in this one. I'd prefer to see the poodles not make it to a bowl game with their tough schedule.

I will never understand why you guys would root against your conference brethren when it comes to OOC games. You need the Huskies to win. I hate Alabama but I hope they slaughter VT, why, because it is good for the conference thus good for LSU in the long run.

Huck the Fuskies. I'm ready for them to become the cellar dwellers of the North, which every conf/division needs a whipping post to rack the wins up.Bud Lee wrote:I will never understand why you guys would root against your conference brethren when it comes to OOC games. In general, I'm with 07. Always root against the Huskies. Their fan base, coaching, and practically everything about them is pathetic.Bud Lee wrote:I will never understand why you guys would root against your conference brethren when it comes to OOC games. But, Boise is worse, I think lol.
Do you want Satan to win? Or the Devil?
I think I'm rooting for Boise, but I guess I'll have to wait until game day to see who wins.
I think Huskies win though. Early score prediction: 27-23

It helps recruiting if the guys you're recruiting against lose these games.Bud Lee wrote:I will never understand why you guys would root against your conference brethren when it comes to OOC games. Is it though? If they lose games to YOU , sure, but the Pups dropping a game to someone like Bosie is bad for business as far as the PAC is concerned in my opinion. In theory it is better for them to win all OOC games, then get man handled by you Stanford, UCLA and USC. That way you can say "see how tough it is to be in the PAC, we beat everyone else and then get beat up by each other."USUaggieDuck wrote:It helps recruiting if the guys you're recruiting against lose these games.Bud Lee wrote:I will never understand why you guys would root against your conference brethren when it comes to OOC games. Examples, look at Mizzou, they has a tough year, only won 5 games…but hey! One of those was against Arizona State so they add a little conference cred there because that is a team that went 2-6 in conference that beat a team that went 8-5 overall and came in third in the PAC south. Same goes for Tenn, they only put together 5 wins and only one conference win, would of came in dead last in the SEC East if it was not for KY, but they beat a NC State that finished 3rd in the Atlantic division of the ACC.
I don't know...SEC mentality I guess doesn't apply out west...or maybe we just have a strange warped way of looking at things. I have always said that a big part of the SEC's success was the "conference pride" that many people outside the SEC picks on us about.

Every conference needs a cellar dweller though that those other mediocre schools can beat up on. Nobody was saying that Kentucky's loss to Louisville at the beginning of the year meant the SEC was suddenly inferior to the Big East. If Boise beats the Poodles again, the media will come down on Washington, not so much on the state of the Pac 12. Of course, Week 1's Big Conf matchups pit Cal vs Northwestern, UW vs Boise, WSU vs Auburn so teams that are expected to finish in the mid to bottom half of the league won't hurt the top end image if they do poorly.Bud Lee wrote:Is it though? I'm hoping some points will be scored and . A lot of people out west were thinking that Leach could have immediate success with two talented QBs last year but this is the year to see if the Coug's are going in the right direction. WSU has 4 automatic's imo that will put them at 2-2 (Southern Utah/Idaho - Oregon/Stanford) but the other 8 games will depend on whether they've gotten better or not. While you could expect Malzahn to have those 1st year pains too, his situation recruited some of his players before he originally left. I think AU should win, but they're going to need someone to take the QB job in the next few weeks.Bud Lee wrote:Fair enough...any ideas how AU vs WSU well end up

This just scratches the surface..for example, even though they played every year the Huskies didn't visit Eugene between 1925 and 1967. The "home" game for the Ducks was played in Portland, 120 miles from campus.Bud Lee wrote:

The hate began in 1948, when Washington got Montana to vote for Cal to go to the Rose Bowl. Cal and Oregon had tied that year in Pacific Coast Conference (which the PAC-10 has now claimed as an earlier version of itself) and a vote was held. Northwest schools were supposed to vote for Oregon and the California schools were supposed to vote for Cal. However, Washington decided to vote for Cal and got Montana to join. Dicks.
...The next year Washington said they didn’t want to come to Eugene, but it was cool if we still went up there. Playing in Portland wasn’t too bad of a drive though and when the PCC conference shifted to the AAWU it looked like Oregon was going to be left out. Washington didn’t care. Seriously, f*** these guys.

Re: Boise St. @ UW (8/31/13, 7 p.m.)
In rooting for or against teams in sports, it's pretty hard for me to think (if "think" is even the right word) anything but viscerally. Logic is hard for me to apply in competitive circumstances. So I can't imagine, come game time, rooting for anything except a Husky loss. And if in the extremely unlikely event that a Husky loss "causes" the Ducks to be left out of the NCG, oh well: It's not like my desires -- sitting at home watching the game live or recorded -- have any effect on the outcome of any game anyway.
But I will be surprised if the Huskies don't win. I think their program, unfortunately, may be about at the place where they will be consistently competitive. (I don't have to tell you how wrong I hope I am.) So then the Ducks' SOS would get a solid benefit.

I think if I could control the outcome of every game this season, I would have UW win this game by 50 points, followed by 50 point defeats in every other game.Greenblood wrote:Just couldn't resist.
