Good News On QB

Post by Mops »

Anthony Gonzalez, from Liberty HS in PA has tabbed the Ducks as a favorite.

He's going to the US AA game.

Only a 3 star on both scout and rivals, but his offer list is stacked. This is great news, can't wait to hear more.

"Anthony Gonzalez may very well be the best Pennsylvania Quarterback not named Paul Jones."

Gonzalez, a 6'1" 193lbs dual-threat quarterback from Liberty High School (Bethlehem, PA), is fresh off a junior season in which he threw for 1,580 yards and 12 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,670 yards and 24 more scores. It's this combination of arm strength and sheer elusiveness that has caught the eyes of Division 1 schools. Some scouts have gone as far as to say that Gonzalez is a mixture of Tim Tebow and Tyrod Taylor.

On top of leading his team to the PIAA AAAA State Championship, Gonzalez also garnered AP First Team All-State honors as a quarterback. Gonzalez has also been nominated for a spot in the 2010 U.S Army All-American Bowl.

A couple things are clear: Gonzalez's recruitment is wide open and he's definitely going to be a steal no matter where he goes.

BTW: Scout.com lists Gonzalez with a 4.49/40...

I would have absolutely no problem "settling" for this kid.

Offers from West Virginia, Penn State, FSU, Clemson, and Missouri, among others.

Any reason he hasn't been offered yet?

Good grades too with a Stanford and Vandy offer, so no worries about getting into school. Good looking target.

This is one of the guys that caught my eye a couple of months ago.

Running Back size and speed. Throws enough to win games. Impressive stats. Frankly the 6'2" and shorter qbs who are or can become a little thick are attractive to me for a run oriented spread offense. I don't cringe every time they take off until they safely get out of bounds like I did with DD. It's better for my ol' heart

I also like QB recruits whose teams win. It eliminates one big question mark compared to guys like Bolden and Hawkins (our QB project from the last class) who have measureables and do great camp, but haven't produced wins or good stats in actual games.

If we do get a tall "camp star" QB like Bolden I hope we pick up a proven winner and producer and someone who actually wants to run zone/read like this as a hedge.

Montana just committed to Washington. I know they were recruiting Scroggins, so that could take them out of the running with him?

Glad to hear we offered Gonzalez.

This kid is also on the ESPN150 Watch List, just like a certain RB who also has us tabbed as #1.
