His passing stats are definitely not that impressive. As a sophomore he had 17 tds / 14 ints and an only 52% completion rate (150 for 280).ARGHimaPirate wrote:10 TDs to 10 INTs
But he is rated a high 3 star in both rivals and scout (Pittsburgh has offered him). Either the coaches saw something really special with this kid, or they are starting to look for the second tier type of QB recruits. Personally, I feel it's the first.

I wonder if this is an indication the Ducks feel they don't have a very good chance at some of the QB targets they offered before Bennett? Or perhaps they would have offered him sooner, but just wanted to wait until he visited before they offered? I guess only the coaches know the answers to those types of questions. He seems more like a #2 QB the Ducks would bring in with this class, rather than the main guy, but who knows where he ranks on Chip's recruiting board.

But keep in mind we've had 4 players transfer and 1 player headed to the MLB. That's already 5 scholarships open (With potentially more later). Perhaps with all these scholarships opening up lately, the coaches are looking for 2 QBs this class?VinnyKnuckles wrote:I wonder if this is an indication the Ducks feel they don't have a very good chance at some of the QB targets they offered before Bennett? Watch this guys film, and tell me he isn't Cody Kempt from Westview in 2006. Although Kempt's td/int was a bit better. The rest of their stats and style of play are very similar.

I hope you aren't using Kempt as an example in an attempt to get me excited about this offer.UOducksTK1 wrote:Watch this guys film, and tell me he isn't Cody Kempt from Westview in 2006. Although Kempt's td/int was a bit better. The rest of their stats and style of play are very similar.
No offense to Cody, but I would rather forget about his stint with the Ducks.

First off if CK is a fan I'll trust that. Secondly what if CK has knowledge of a pending commitment or better than average shot at one of the elite QB's and is just locking up #2 now. Who knows, time to trust the coaches.

You can't get 5 top QBs to commit to the same school if you're Oregon. You get a couple to few and then add depth with projects like this with good upside. Bennett would be the perfect 2nd QB Oregon takes in this class and will not scary the big dogs away either.

I have no problem offering this kid as a 2nd QB. I really hope thats the case though. I pray this kid is nothing like Cody Kempt, that would be a giant bummer.

Especially the part about using 2 scholarship years at Oregon as a 'development camp' for another institution...ARGHimaPirate wrote:I have no problem offering this kid as a 2nd QB. I really hope thats the case though. I pray this kid is nothing like Cody Kempt, that would be a giant bummer.

Definitely not a #1 qb, at least in my mind. If we want to take him as a #2 qb fine, but we better land somone more highly regarded.

The more I read/hear on this on guy the more I like...if he commits and we land one off our main list I'm a happy camper!

Sounds to me like one of the "diamond in the rough" duck targets they have been trying to keep quiet. This kid has a lot of upside and great tools. Plus location is good.

FWIW, Greg Biggins is an excellent evaluator and thinks Bennett is one of the top 15 QBs in the country overall.jhopduck wrote:Sounds to me like one of the "diamond in the rough" duck targets they have been trying to keep quiet. This kid has a lot of upside and great tools. Plus location is good.
