More info on Mathis

"Tennessee is no longer in my top three. It's Oregon, Michigan State and Illinois now," Mathis reported. "Oregon's No. 1. They were No. 1 before I went out there."

"It was actually more than what I expected. I knew it was going to be nice, but I didn't expect it to be that nice. It was a wonderful experience," Mathis said.

Both of Mathis' parents accompanied him on the visit to Oregon, and they were also impressed with what the Ducks had to offer.

Thats good news but still concerned about MSU since seems his mom still wants him going there. I am hoping it was his parents impressed with things here and not neccesarily the kid. Yes of course its important the kid enjoys it but considering she wants him at MSU I want her on board too.

I guess since I am not a paying member of rivals.. or scout.. that if see a link at either that might have information duck fans be interested in can no longer post the link and ask for a quick summary if am reading things right. How do people that are fans that do not pay.. get their info if can not post a link.. and ask for a brief summary. It is just a mere question. I enjoy this site.. and all the info given.

Because technically, summaries are violating the rules of the subscription sites and can get the violators banned without refund. Summaries include inside information or premium information that people pay for to be exclusive.

The proper (By the rules) way to do it would be the following example...

Ted Meline to visit Oregon for the Utah Game and has Oregon in top three (Premium)...
http://www.duckterritory.com/duck-footb ... sit-eugene

I enjoy this site as much as the next guy and appreciate the excellent conversation of Duck fans here but stealing information from pay sites is not the way to go.

As a subscriber to one of the websites, I always get a laugh out of the "premium" content disputes. I understand rules concerning plagiarism, and to an extent I understand the territorial nature of the business; I do not however believe that these sites have exclusive rights to information. There is no patent law protecting the spread of rumors, er information, only site rules (as long as it is properly cited). Technically if I read an article from scout, rivals, or DT and relayed what I read to my house mates over a beer I would be violating terms of agreement in exactly the same way I would be by summarizing it on a message board.

Think about it. As a subscriber you pay for access to information you would not otherwise have. Once you pay for that access, you have purchased the information. Just like academic journals or anything else that provides information you should be free to do with that knowledge what you wish, again providing adequate citations. These recruiting sites are really nothing more than a giant rumor mill that charge to hear the latest buzz. It's a bummer it works this way but if you're an addict to anything Ducks related (such as my self) you work with what's available. That's why I spend most of my browsing here, where info is generally good and free, and the premium content business was until recently very small.

There is no law, you are correct. But I never said your committing a crime or something so not sure where that came from. All pay sites have a terms of service that people have to agree with before joining. That includes agreeing to the rules set forth. It also says if those rules are broken then you can be banned from reading anything without refund but that's as far as it goes. It's not only about the rules though, it's also about respect for others and integrity. Why ruin the amount of info given because some posters are sharing inside info elsewhere for free? Just do what's right.

YES, YES, YES!!!!

Posting the information found on a pay site is no different than telling me in the break room at work. The dissemination of information can't be controlled ... if you don't believe that, read up about the Gestapo, Nazis, Russians, etc. Not that I'm calling anyone a Nazi

What you tell your buddies by word of mouth cannot be controlled. Postings on free blogs can.

????

A person can controll what they say to their buddies....
A person can controll what they post on a free board.... but this has nothing to do with the main discussion.

i understand why the fellow duck fans that work for pay sites don't want other duck fans posting pay site information.
its is obvious that they loose money that way and in these economic times that sucks even worse. The economy is also the reason not as many duck fans are signing up for DT DSA AND EDUCK causing more people to share info. I know that's why i canceled all my subscriptions. the thing is, no duck fan who isnt in "the know" is gonna keep another duck fan from helping them be in "the know."

thank you to all fellow duck fans who help me be in "the know" and im sorry to all my other fellow duck fans who get extremely annoyed about it. once i can get some more money i will be getting a DT subscription anyways. :)

I'm also not saying I will do that on DT (unless it's really extreme). I was just answering a question from above.

Tony, I wasn't trying to implicate anyone in threatening anything or anybody legally. If I did so, I certainly apologize. I was really only trying to make the point that, in my opinion, the rules put forth by recruiting sites regarding the spread of information are often taken too far, and have no legal basis.

You make a good point about integrity and respect. That is why you should always provide proper citations to any information you may have gotten from any site (I do not believe that respect is only shown through $ values). I strongly disagree with the assertion that to pass information along, after paying for it, is in anyway showing a lack of integrity or honesty (as long as it is done in the right way). I do not believe that articles should be plagiarized, copied and pasted, but if I read a scout article tomorrow about M. Lattimore's recruitment and would like to share some details about it with my friends, I should by all means be able to do that (especially if I'm paying for said information). In fact, I think a good argument can be made that says restricting the flow of information that is bought and paid for is lacking in integrity, and I resent the implication that my spreading, or defense of the spread, of information, that is paid for is somehow lacking integrity.

The funny thing about this, is that it is a classic catch 22 situation. The only repercussion pay sites have is to ban subscribers and cut them off without refund. However, if every subscriber was freely discussing information they paid for, they could only ban so many before their business would fold. It is certainly a weird business dynamic and one built entirely on the complicity of it's customers.

More important though is that I have completely hijacked this thread, and for that, I apologize. It is just dissapointing to see a site that was at one time full of just everyday Ducks fans, and a relief from the scouts and rivals of the world, gradually turning into just another extension of a pay site; taking along with it long time posters. I've always been more of a "read more, post less" kind of guy (and will continue to be one), but this is an issue that more than anything else, I find dissapointing. My apologies for the rant again and Go Ducks.

It's all good. I'm just trying to explain it from my/our side as well.

Back to Mathis, hear he's pretty good.
