95 Small Forwards

Top 5 1995 Small Forwards:

SFs:
Michael Finley
C+ C+ C C+ C A
Bomber from the SF position. Finley owned the big ten this past season. He knows what to do with the ball in his hands and the hoop is his objective. He is decisive both on the low block and from deep. He has a plus first step and shows an explosive driving ability. He is very good at boxing out from his top-shelf footwork but doesn't fight enough on the offensive end to get many putbacks. Good, not great defender, but scouts dont think this should be enough to worry any prospective GMs. Loaded with potential.

Alan Henderson
C+ C- C- C C+ A

Very well built player out of basketball powerhouse Indiana. Old Bobby Knight, when he's not throwing chairs at the referees, knows how to coach em up. At 6'9", 235 Henderson has the size and rebounding to play the 5, but the quickness to play the 3. He can dominate backing down smaller 3s but struggles to defend quicker G/Fs. Scouts grade him out as a solid A potential, neither top end, but by no means near the bottom of the A scale.

Sherell Ford
C+ C+ C D+ C A

Maybe the greatest player to go through the University of Illinois, Chicago. This small school is a research institution but they would have needed a grant to figure out how Sherell Ford drug them into the Big Dance. Very good both outside and inside, Ford torched his conference on the way to winning the conference tournament and a first round exit against Duke. While he may be right up there with the rest of the class on offense, his defense leaves a fair amount to be desired. He has never been asked his whole life and shows little interest in learning now. Scouts love his lithe 6'6" frame and has plenty of room to grow.

Fred Hoiberg
C+ C+ C C+ C B

Both inside and outside Fred Holiberg was a nightmare for the Big Eight this year. Even over the likes of other basketball powers like Nebraska or Kansas, Hoiberg showed up night in and night out. He has a very good jump shot, and when you pair that with his quick release from deep, he could put up points in a hurry. Excellent at defending outside, he also came away with a fair number of steals with his very pesky slap until they call a foul style of defending. He greaded out well at the combine, but they worry that he doesn't have the work ethic to be any more than a big fish in a little pond.

Dejan Bodiroga
C+ B C- C D+ B

Sniper out of Yugoslavia. The Serbian is another in a growing line of talent to come out of that part of the world. Has in the gym range. When he and Brent Berry went off for a shooting competition at the combine, half the gym (and all the scouts) dropped everything and gathered around the watch. Elite quickness for the G/F position, if he he was better at rebounding he would challenge for best SF of the class. He is a little older at 25, and many scouts think he may not have that much left in the tank, that said, he is very NBA ready as it is.

Other SF prospects:

Rick Brunson
C+ B+ C+ C C- C

Solid shooter out of Temple. Scouts think he has probably already peaked.

Mark Davis
C+ C- D+ C+ C+ B

Stretch 4 who started at Howard and finished at Texas Tech. Really quick hands

Boris Gorenc
C D+ D- B C C

Not much is known out of the Yugo out of Slovenia. Tapes show a very good defender

Monty Buckley
C+ D+ D- C+ C C

Really aggressive in the post, love to play above the rim.

Ed O'Bannon
C C D+ C+ C C

He played well in college, but he showed up to the combine overweight and out of shape. Word is he has gotten it back down, but his abrasive interviews, I want mine, attitude rubbed people the wrong way.
