Scales has a #1

"Right now my No. 1 is Oregon. My teammates, Keenan Allen and I really like Oregon and it's a good atmosphere. We all took a trip out there and everyone liked it. If we come in and work hard, we all could see the field early."
It also says he is close to making a decision, probably the 3rd game of the season...... which for Oregon would be Utah. I think Oregon will get him and therefore most likely get Allen as well. Scales offers are from Oregon, Duke, Louisville, Kentucky and Ohio with interest from UConn and Virginia.

What is the celling for a player like Scales? He's got some offers but none from any big boys. If getting scales means getting a big-time safety in Allen, then I think its a good move by the coaching staff.
Stewart Mandel-"From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I much prefer to watch a good spread-rushing offense over a traditional Power-I offense, and Oregon's has been the most fun by far for the past several years. It's fast, its precise, and when Chip Kelly has the right quarterback (Dixon, Masoli) at the helm, the possibility of someone ripping off a 60-yard run exists on nearly every play."

This is awesome news. Scales is a very solid recruit, but what's even more enticing is that this increases our chances with a few NC guys. Imagine if Scales and McCain chose "O" within a few weeks?
We still shouldn't get ahead of ourselves here, but this recruiting class has the potential to be dangerously great.

Scout shows him with a 4.93 40 yard time. Is that accurate. Are there any concerns in that area?

If it is, yes. I don't care what people say, 40 times are important. There's a reason they always run them at combines. You can be good with that 40 time, but you need to be great in some other areas.RanDux wrote:Scout shows him with a 4.93 40 yard time. Is that accurate. Are there any concerns in that area?

Rivals shows him with a 4.6. I can't imagine a CB getting 3 stars from anybody with a 4.93.
Scout also shows Louisville leading for Scales services, so that tears it...
The Ducks haven't got a chance!
ESPN had this to say:

However, we do question his top-end speed at the major college level, quicker than fast and more effective with bursts in the short-area. Needs technique refinement at both receiver and cornerback, actually may be more naturally ready to make the jump to safety, particularly if he continues to fill out. Scales is a very good under the radar prospects with some intangibles; should be a team's best coverage guy in the kicking game adding to his upside.
