Anthony Gonzalez a Florida State lean?

Post by woundedknees »

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/r ... 5853.story

August 11th article.

It sounds like it will take a strong push to change Liberty (Pa.) High quarterback Anthony Gonzalez's direction. He's leaning toward Florida State, according to his head coach Tim Moncman.

Gonzalez... "has relatives in Florida, so that was something that made it attractive," said Moncman... "It has also helped out that Coach [FSU assistant Chuck] Amato had coached our athletic director Sam Seneca back when he was at NC State.

"He's outstanding," Moncman said of Gonzalez's leadership. "The one thing about Anthony is that he doesn't leave the field. He starts at safety for us and he's always around the ball. He's been outstanding in the weight room ... put on 15 pounds this summer."

Play behind EJ Manuel OR redshirt as a freshman and if you are as good as advertise start your JR+SR years. Hmmmmm...

I would definitely like Gonzalez but at the same time I really like Munchie (who seems more likely to be a Duck). We already have a really nice prospect in Bennet too. At this point we can't lose. Add Munchie or Gonzalez & if not we just get a top flight QB next year.

I think I like Gonzalez' skillset a bit more at this point. But like you said, with either you can't go wrong.

I have absolutely no inside information, but when I read this, I thought that maybe Munchie is a silent commit to us and Gonzalez knows that and doesn't want to be 1 of 3 QB commits to us.

Again, I have NO inside information, this is just a hypothesis.

Gonzales has been an FSU lean for a long time but FSU guys are saying he might not have an offer. If not he probably ends up at Pitt.

Gonzalez would be great to bring in as an athlete but as a QB? I have serious questions about his passing game. He'd make a perfect wildcat type of QB.

At this point, Legaux is a better passer so I'll take him.

Hmmm ... I noticed you didn't say, "I would take take him".

Do we need another QB with the way Hawkins is coming along? Would be happy to take Munchie, but if it doesn't work out... maybe not that big a deal.

We do because Kelly likes to keep 5 scholarship QBs on the roster at any one time. I think that they take 2 this year if they can get them since we lose Costa and Masoli after next season, leaving only Thomas and Hawkins as QBs with any college experience. Bringing in Bennett and at least one more would shore up the depth chart and allow Kelly to build the depth chart for the future. He could always take one this year and 2 next year, but that leaves the Ducks with very unproven QBs.

Definitely two this year. With Roper transferring and with Costa "Still" being a health concern, we need to bring in 2. Keep in mind Hawkins was recruited for WR by Frost so I bet he moves over when we bring in two next year.

With Munchie and Bennett, this class would definitely be a success at QB for anyone with reasonable expectations. Both of them have the potential to become four star recruits by the time February rolls around. Keep in mind this is probably the worst year to recruit quarterbacks in several years, so we're lucky to have even one serviceable qb.
