I'm not to worried about Grant because although I would like to land him, we are in on a couple of RB's that I think are better than him (Lattimore, Williams, McConico). You guys have to remember that a lot can happen between now and February, so just sit back and enjoy the ride because if you try to read between the lines and get worried over every little story that casts doubt on Ethan's "Soft Verbal" to us, you are going to get burned out.

Yeah, Grant is shopping.

Why did he give a verbal commit?

Kelly ought to pull the offer until is is willing to tell the truth.

He changed his mind? Did you ever do that in your teens?

I wouldn't pull his offer, but your general sentiment I agree with. CK won't accept commitments until recruits have visited campus, it isn't a stretch to stop accepting silent commitments. If a kid wants to announce at an all star game, sure, but you're not committed until you're committed. All the way or nothing.

It makes no sense for a coaching staff to accept verbal commitments that are just a way for kids to hold themselves a spot while the shop around and see if they can't find something better. If a prospect is shopping, so should the team.

GH: You’ve shown interest in running track as well, is that something that Minnesota would give you the opportunity to do?

EG: Yes. I talked to Coach Brewster about it and met with one of the track coaches at Minnesota and showed me around the track. They have a nice program going for them; they won the Big 10 Championship.

GH: What events do you run in track?

EG: Hurdles and sprints.

Man, if he wants to run track he needed to be at Hayward Field during the Pac 10 championships. Nothing even closely compares to it.

Did any Oregon football players participate in track last year? T&F hasn't gotten much help the last several years with spring practice interfering.

Pretty sure LMJ and Holland ran sprints.

They are on the roster but I don't think they participated in any events. Possibly they appeared in the Oregon Preview but they certainly didn't contribute during any competitive meets.

Pretty much all the Ducks needed to to to win the NC was place in the middle of any of the relays...

The guys were focused on football.

Don't want to take him for granted just because he committed early, but if he isn't 100% on Oregon anymore I hope he figures out what he does want before wasting a year of eligibility then moving on to somewhere else. Of course, my number one hope is that he once again becomes 100% on being a Duck, I know we feel loaded at RB already but with speed like his, CK could find a place for him to get minutes I'm sure.

I didn't see anything there to indicate that he doesn't still highly regard the Ducks. I don't mind if we've slipped in the sense that he wants to look at and compare other schools. He's achieved what he has on the field and deserves to take the once in a lifetime opportunity to be hosted around the country.

If some other program appeals to him more than Oregon for some reason, I can't begrudge him at all for going elsewhere. There will be plenty of players (and maybe him as well!) that feel just as strongly about Oregon being the right place for them. That's what makes a Duck.

The last thing Oregon needs is another situation like the Chris Harper fiasco... Let's hope that the guys who come have matured to the point where apron strings are not stronger than the will to succeed.

Some opportunities only come around once.

When she was young, my wife had the chance to be a sprinter for the Ducks, and one of her HS instructors convinced her that a work/study program with US Bank was a better idea(WTH???)... Guess who looks back on the missed opportunity?

Yeah, it's water under the bridge, but it is also something you can never go back and do over, once the opportunity passes.

I want Ethan Grant to come to Oregon as much as anybody but I also want him to make the decision that is best for him.. evem if that means he chooses to not play at Oregon. As one already said we do not need another Chris Harper fiasco and we are a long ways from Florida. Let the kid shop around and let us keep pursuing him letting him know we want him here but realizing this is his choice. As far as this ruining our chances of recruiting on the east coast I just do not see that. We are still pursuing the kids from NC and maybe we miss out on them as well but their will come a day duck fans that with Chip Kelly going after the best talent in the USA that we will land some of the east coast talent. Of course will be more that dont land but we are not USC.. yet in these kids eyes. I am staying optimistic when it comes to recruiting there but realistic as well. One miss does not equal all misses. If Dontae did commit and we get Lattimore.. I would be extremely excited and would still welcome Ethan Grant.
