Bob Rickert's opinion on our current recruiting...
http://www.oregonlive.com/forums/duckfootball/
"The magic question of course, posed by NCDucks.
I'll go this far...because it's all speculation
I think...one man's opinion based on everything so far:
Michael Clay will be a Duck.Bryson Littlejohn will be a Duck.Gaines is 50/50 but maybe an Oregon lean after this weekend.Johnson's a Duck if Oregon offers him and he wants to play DB instead of wide receiver. If he wants to play wide receiver he probably winds up at Colorado State or another school.
Harris is probably a Duck if he qualifies. He's in a great spot if he comes to Oregon because with Thurmond, Byrd and Glasper all gone after next year the Ducks will need to play new guys at the corner spots. Gildon seems a natural along with Talmadge Jackson but after that it starts to get more thin than the Duck staff would like I'm sure.
Brian Jackson winds up at UAB. He's a terrific player, but he's got a lot of ties in-state. I'd say he's a longshot without knowing how it's going this weekend. But Oregon is the highest profile program recruiting him at this point. USF and UAB are the other two I believe, without looking it up again.
Cameron Marshall is interesting. I still think if he becomes a Duck he can be easily as productive as Terrance Whitehead. He's got those kinds of skills and he's bigger than TW as well at this stage of his development. I think Kelly wants Marshall whether Brown shows up or not. Marshall's a very bright guy who's academically qualified to play at Northwestern and has an offer from them.
Brown: I'd say 50/50. I'd say stronger if Tajh Boyd comes to Oregon. I'd make Boyd better than 50/50. Boyd's getting some pressure from Ohio State to make a decision soon because they want to offer and take in another quarterback if Boyd isn't it this year. That may or may not play into Oregon's favor but Boyd didn't visit Clemson this weekend as had been discussed on some other boards. He's got a ton of schoolwork to do because of is trips and the all-star game in San Antonio last weekend.
I like Oregon's chances with Boyd. I don't think Brown's going to decide where to go based on anybody else's decisions but, it wouldn't hurt at all if his new friend Tajh Boyd chose Oregon and Harper is already in Eugene of course.
Reading through Brown's comments, he believes Chip Kelly is the best offensive coordinator he's met. Loves how relentless Kelly is about getting better and trying new things to improve all the time. That's the biggest thing in the 'for' column for Oregon without a doubt. Boyd seems to feel the same way but hasn't said it in the press as overtly as Brown has.
One other thing. There seems to be a lot of talk about how Oregon's in need of a lot of great O-Linemen this year. They always need great O-Linemen but looking at their roster and who they've got committed already, they're in great, great shape at offensive line going foward. Kaiser, Thran and all started or played big minutes last year and were terrific for long stretches. Hamani Stevens was a beast on the scout team and everyone's going to love him at center once he gets just a little playing time behind him. Add Carmichael, Weems, Carson York, Nick Cody and Mark Asper (who is now 6' 7", 325lbs. and wil l turn 24 in November as a redshirt freshman), and you've got a heckuvan offensive line talent. A ton.
But wait, offensive guard Trevor Fox and 6' 6", 320lb. tackle Everett Benyard are in this year's class as verbals right now.
Would it be great to have Michael Phillip or Jamaal Burrell as well? Of course. Both could be terrific and Phillip is good enough to play early if he comes in and works hard. But if they don't land either of those players, Oregon's offensive line is going to be very good for awhile either way.
That's what I've got for now. "
It sounds about like what everyone on here has been saying. I think that Boyd will really be the deciding factor for the direction that the end of our recruiting will go. If he commits, I think he will sway some more people our way, if not I think we will end up with more back up plans than first options.
Anyways, I am liking the new board.

Good stuff. The Ducks class will most likely end up looking really good!

You can never have too much talent, but you really have to wonder if someone like Marshall would get any playing time if Brown came here.

Johnson wants to play DB? I guess that's good if he's better there, but I really would like him as a WR.

Yeah, I don't know how well a Terrance Whitehead type back would do in our offense these days.duckgrad99 wrote:You can never have too much talent, but you really have to wonder if someone like Marshall would get any playing time if Brown came here.

I am glad to see him contributing to the O-Live forum. It makes it less of a cesspool.Tray Dub wrote:I'm impressed with Rickert, he seems to really know what he's talking about.

O live is better but the format and majority of posters is still unbearable. Ducksattack is the best by far!karlhungis wrote:I am glad to see him contributing to the O-Live forum.
