Key Free Agents Available

Post by Hkate001 »

It’s that time of the year again: DASL free agency! Free agency is, of course, a very important time of each and every season. Teams will all be trying to add the final pieces to what they hope will be a championship roster. While free agency is set to begin in just a few hours, let’s take a look at some key free agents at each position.

Center

John Salley C+ C- D- A A- C
- Salley is a veteran dependable center. At age 34, he is entering the latter stages of his career, though he showed he still had something left in the tank last year, averaging 11.6 PPG and 9.5 RPG, comparable to his career averages of 12.0 and 8.9, respectively.

Rony Seikaly B D F+ A B+ C
- Like Salley, Seikaly is another dependable veteran. He averaged 14.8 PPG and 10.1 RPG, slightly better than Salley. He also averaged 1.9 BPG, making other teams fear driving the lane against him. The one downside to Seikaly’s game is his poor free throw shooting, averaging only .590 from the stripe for his career.

Milos Babic B C- F A- B+ D
- At age 29, Babic is the youngest of our three featured centers, seemingly entering the prime of his career. He averaged 15.7 PPG and 10.5 RPG last year, well above his career averages of 11.0 and 7.6. If Babic can continue this trend upwards, he may very well end up being one of the most dominant big men in the league.

Power Forward

Karl Malone A- C- D+ B+ A- D
- Malone may very well be the most sought after free agent this year. A seven time all-star and five team All-League 1st team member, he is certainly the most decorated. Currently, he also holds the career record for points in DASL with 21,635. Averaging 27.3 PPG and 11.2 RPG over his career while shooting an impressive .487, the team that signs Malone will instantly be considered a championship contender.

Brian Grant B C- C A- B+ A
- At age 26, Grant is just about to enter into the prime of his career. Most scouts still see great potential for growth from Grant. Coming off of a year where he averaged 14.4 PPG and 11.3 RPG, any growth will propel him into an all-star. The team that signs Grant will have a star PF this season and for many more to come.

Juwan Howard C+ C- C A- B B
- Like Grant, Howard is a solid young player already who shows good potential still. While not expected to grow his game as much as Grant, Howard is starting to show his potential, averaging 10.4 PPG and 10.2 RPG last year, both career highs. Also like Grant, if he can build n these numbers, he will also be poised to become an all-star.

Small Forward

John Williams B- C C+ A- C+ C
- The small forward free agent class this year is probably the weakest of the five positions, but that doesn’t mean that Williams would not be a great addition to many teams. Averaging 12.2 PPG and 6.3 RPG last year, Williams would be an excellent addition to any team’s bench. This makes sense, considering he has won 6th Man of the Year twice in his career.

Xavier McDaniel B+ C C- B+ C C
- McDaniel’s best years are behind him, but he is looking to prove that he could be a valuable commodity still in this league. Over his career, he has averaged 15.0 PPG and 5.6 RPG. Like Williams, these aren’t superstar numbers, but he would be an excellent 6th man.

Ray Jackson B+ C- C+ B- C+ C
- Rounding out our key players at small forward is Ray Jackson. Only 26 years old, his best years are surely in front of him. Last year, while only playing 18.7 MPG, he set career highs in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals per game. Along with this, he also shot a blistering .534 from the floor. While he still needs to build upon these numbers to prove anything, he seems to have a great future ahead of him.

Shooting Guard

Latrell Sprewell C+ A B- A- C B
- At 28 years old, Sprewell is already one of the top shooting guards in the league. Along with Dana Barros, he has been a key component of the Bucks’ championship success. Averaging 25.3 PPG, 5.3 APG, and 6.3 APG last year makes it easy to see why. While his offense speaks for itself, Sprewell is also a defensive stud, being named to the All-Defensive 1st Team twice in his career. He averaged 2.3 SPG last year, which is slightly better than his career mark of 1.9. The scary thing is, he still shows room for growth.

Khalid Reeves C A- B A- D C
- Another one of those young players about to enter the prime of his career, Reeves seems to be on the cusp of a breakout year. While his stats may not stand out (averaging only 11.8 PPG last year), he is a marksman from behind the arc, shooting .406 from 3-point land last year, a career high. Put into an offense where his outside game is highlighted, his numbers could grow significantly.

Ron Harper B C+ C+ A C C
- A two time All-Star, Harper is well past that stage of his career at age 34. However, he can rebound and play defense very well for his position, and if he can produce anything close to his career averages (13.4 PPG, 3.9 APG, 5.1 RPG, 1.8 SPG), many teams would have a roster spot waiting for him.

Point Guard

Kenny Anderson B B+ A- A- C- C
- Anderson was in the midst of his breakout year last year until a broken leg prematurely ended his season a few weeks before the playoffs. He was averaging 13.9 PPG, 10.2 APG, and 5.1 RPG before he went down last year, all career highs. Another year like that and Anderson could find himself being compared with the top point guards in the league.

John Stockton C+ C+ A A- C- C
- At 36 years old, Stockton still had good production last year, averaging 15.3 PPG and 9.0 APG, both better than his career averages. He also played great defense, averaging 2.5 SPG. As long as Stockton is putting up numbers like that, he will continue to be a great option at the point position.

Pooh Richardson C C+ A+ A- D+ C
- Not only is Pooh a great floor general, but he can also score. He averaged 18.1 PPG, a career high, along with 8.8 APG last year. He shot a respectable .438 from the floor, but really lit it up at the free throw line, shooting a blistering .911. At 32 years old, he is sure to still have at least a couple of years of good production until he starts to fall off.

Of course, these are not the only free agent signings that will have an impact this year, but I would be surprised if none of these fifteen do. Now, it’s time to sit back and watch the signings start to roll in, as free agency is upon us.

Nicely done, and a good primer to help people siphon through all of the top free agents.

Good job. Happy and worried to see three Bucks at the top of their position.

We should add a content section to not clutter general discussion.

Please vote. I want at least 15 votes until I close voting. For GMs that don't vote, no points will be given to you if you ever write an article down the road.
