2001 PGs

Tony Parker B- C C+ C+ D+ A

Born in Belgum and raised in France, the Euro was a relative unknown until just the last couple of years. Having turned pro just over two years ago at the age 16 (the min age in France to do so) he has been playing as a backup at Paris Basket Racing until last year when he won the starting job. Parker took the job and ran with it, earning an honorable mention in Euroleague player of the year. Parker is a pure slasher from the PG position. May scouts think this out of necessity as his outside game is still developing, but that should not take away just how good his first step is in assisting him to getting down and into the paint with regularity. Good passer for someone of his age with solid situation awareness so one should not consider an excessive turnover risk. Loaded with potential, is should only be a matter of time and an opportunity.

Gilbert Arenas C+ B- C C C- A

Arenas was the engine that pushed the Arizona Wildcats to the very pinnacle of college basketball. He has excellent speed with the ball and has a very good step back to go with it. He has a great looking deep ball with very good foundation of technique. Scouts think with his high ceiling that he easily could be one of the best shooter in this class if things break as expected. During the tourney run, Arenas did struggle with losing the ball when he got overly ambitious on the drive and seemed to lack the desire to chase his machup down. The biggest red flag with Arenas is his attitude and off the court issues, unless he can get domestic life in order his constant extracurricular distractions could lead to trouble down the line.

Earl Watson C C B- B- D+ B

Not a shooter by any means but the point guard from Cal proved why he why he is the definition of class during the season and the combine. Watson was never a threat to score, but his ability to spot the open man and to get it there is a thing of beauty. He is a sniper from the free throw line extened and he is one of the best outside defenders at point to come out in some time. He would make Nate McMillian proud with his attention to his craft. Excellent potential.

Jamaal Tinsley C C+ B- C+ D A

The Iowa State alum has been giving his conference fits for the past few years and they will be happy to see him go. He was one of the quickest guards out there with great deep ball to match. At the combine he was an absolute menace with his tight on ball defense. The police were nearly called a couple of times as Tinsley was nicking everything in sight. Scouts think that as long as this kleptomania is focused he should have a long and prosperous career ahead of him.

Carlos Arroyo C- B- C+ C+ C- B

Outside sniper out of Florida International. He spent most of his career running rings around his inferior mashups and finally began to meet his match at the combine. He has a great looking release and his first step is outstanding. Even when he misses he has a knack for getting his miss back and putting it back up and in, even against the tallest of trees. He seems immune to any screen set on him.

Other Point Guard Prospects

Will Solomon C C+ C C D C

Great looking deep ball with quick hands on his release and on defense. Desperate need to hit the weights.

Raul Lopez C- B+ C+ C D+ B

Spanish sniper. Hand down the best deep threat in the class. Fall in love with his beautiful stroke all too often

Omar Cook C+ C C C D+ C

Very balanced scorer, but the words master of none come to mind. Soars above the rim and very strong (guard or no)

Kenny Satterfield C C+ C C+ D+ C

Love the five-fingered discount. Poor potential.

Dean Oliver B- D+ C D D- B

Outstanding post up point guard. Limited potential.
