As kind of an aside, I note that GameDay is to be in Tucson for the Bruins-Wildcats matchup (http://espn.go.com/blog/pac12/post/_/id ... at-arizona). While I wouldn't have imagined it before the season started, kind of funny to think that had the Ducks beaten MSU, GameDay might well have chosen to be in Eugene this week.

Hey, and that game (UA/UCLA) should be a good one. I'm wondering if Oregon doesn't get a game day at home this year. USC is the only real shot, and who knows if Oregon and USC will still be ranked as high as they are now.Greenblood wrote:As kind of an aside, I note that GameDay is to be in Tucson for the Bruins-Wildcats matchup (http://espn.go.com/blog/pac12/post/_/id ... at-arizona). I'm hoping someone here can record the game. I'll be there at the 5 yard line cheering hard. Should be a wild atmosphere but I'd love to be able to watch the broadcast later.
Especially with Gus Johnson calling it. Love that dude

Maybe so, but from what I've seen, the Ducks secondary might be good for whatever ails a mediocre passing game.big z wrote:If Utah is going to beat Oregon this is the season, but they won't have a chance if they can't throw the ball and they haven't shown the capability to do so yet this year with consistency

Nice to see you're still around big z, hope all is well.big z wrote:They haven't named a starter for the game yet, I'm expecting you won't hear anything until game time. Wilson jacked his non-throwing shoulder up, but was in practice a few days later so who knows. You could see Thompson, Wilson or Hansen.UOducksTK1 wrote:Thompson is starting for the Utes? Booker will be tough for the Ducks slow down, but not sure about Thompson.

And thanks for the update. I guess no one knows who will be starting on either side come game time.

Ok, I'll be that guy. I don't understand the love for Gus Johnson. I think he's terrible. But I seem to be in the minority, so you guys enjoy!Jaw327 wrote:I'm hoping someone here can record the game. I checked out the Utah media reports yesterday, the QB situation sounds pretty much like us. Utah says the QB will be a game time decision, Wilson is practicing, Utah isn't saying and every Utah fan knows it will be Wilson.

He's not that great of a play by play guy but his voice and inflection makes every play sound enormously epic.wlduck wrote:Ok, I'll be that guy. I don't understand the love for Gus Johnson. I don't know. I've always liked Gus. I think he just bring an energy and spontaneity to his call that makes it exciting.wlduck wrote:Ok, I'll be that guy. I don't understand the love for Gus Johnson. I'd prefer Gus to Reece Davis and probably even Chris Fowler.
Reece always seems like he's a step or two behind.

I still haven't gotten over the 2012 SC game with Gus.
"TOUCHDOWN MARQUISE LEEEEEEEEEEE!"
And then when we scored:
"Touchdown. Oregon."
The dude roots for upsets, that's for sure. And you can totally tell who he's rooting for. That is kind of exactly the opposite of what a national broadcaster should be.

That game was recently on Pac-12 Networks, and his performance was cringeworthy. Made us kicking USC's ass that much sweeter.I still haven't gotten over the 2012 SC game with Gus.

I am hoping for a healthy Wilson, but i'm afraid it's going to be Thompson with some Hansen mixed in at the Wildcat.Alan wrote:I checked out the Utah media reports yesterday, the QB situation sounds pretty much like us. Re: Utah @ Oregon (Saturday 5:45 PM FOX)
Funny. I always felt he was trying to keep as many viewers into the game as possible. If a game looks like it will turn into a blowout, but the underdog finds a way to stay in it and maybe pull out a win, that is exciting. I believe UO was a top five team and USC was ranked in the teens. If he keeps just 100k HHs watching an Oregon game by maintaining high levels of excitement, then it benefits the UO. Future players seeing Oregon as THE exciting program nationally will build the program. Being upset about him showing excitement directed at an opposing team is short-sighted.Jaw327 wrote:ohh yeah, very true. Forgot about that game. The point being that people don't change the channel when a game is exciting. He's trying to help maintain interest levels in a game when there are many alternative games to watch. If he can keep people watching longer, the ratings are higher. High ratings for Oregon games means the program stays relevant for years to come. It's smart business for FOX Sports and honestly, he loves what he does and is genuinely excited about it. That it benefits Oregon is the cherry on top of the sundae. That's if you like cherries on the top of your sundaes.
