I am a little confused by the potential offer to a pro-style QB.

I wouldn't have labeled Thomas a dual threat qb. He was a 5.0 flat 40 kid, who could get some yards when he had to, but he was no Dixon, Masoli or Mariota when running.

True dual-threat QBs are QBs who won't live to see the end of the season. Ask Ohio State, Taysum Hill, Chuckie Keaton, Mariota in 2013, etc. Unless Oregon gets to a point where they have multiple effective passers, I'm more than OK with what they've done over the last season and a half of dialing back the running plays by the QB.

I'm not a duckterritory member, but last I've heard is Seth Green is out and that potentially opens a spot for Herbert. It's only been a few days so an offer is still being decided but sounds like Herbert was the first person to get a call when Green decommitted.

Probably waiting until he figures out what his next move is. Recruits sometime impress me with their PR skills. If he commits elsewhere (I'm guessing he winds up at Minnesota, fwiw) it will look like that team flipped an Oregon recruit, which looks better than the reality.

That is really weird as we've heard he was nothing but a QB. I'm beginning to wonder if they saw him struggling as a QB so moved him to TE or he was always viewed as that. Just seems Oregon's recruiting strategy has been real wonky since fall camp started and this another sign of that.

Definitely was not recruited to play TE originally. Oregon recruited Green because he's a super athletic kid with a really strong arm and good footwork. They guessed that he would continue to develop and wanted to get in early. A year later, it's evident he'll struggle as a QB, so rather than pull his scholarship they offered to let him try a different position.

That's simply a set up or gentle nudge for him to move on. They saw how badly he struggled. I can tell you from Herberts tape of just 3 games this season his "wow" potential is much higher than Seth's. We would be idiots not to offer him. A local kid who win's in basketball, baseball and football. Injured in the 2nd game of his junior year, finalist in basketball, State Champion and key player on baseball team with wicked heat.

Seth is being forced out, no if's and or but's. They know he's going to be a bust and they want move on. This is how it works. You don't want to pull their scholarship because of the indirect message that sends to other prospects but he's gone. This kid is like MM, completely overlooked due to injury and baseball conflicts. He's the real deal.

He just tweeted he's accepted an offer from the University of Oregon. Said it has been a lifelong dream. Welcome aboard!

I think the kids film is intriguing. Will be interesting to see if other schools start to pursue him now.

It'll be interesting to see how Herbert does because while he certainly has talent, he's also still a developing QB who'll likely need a couple years to get the offense down and have a body ready for D1 football.

Just a matter of time. Unless, no one else wants him as a QB he'll go shortly. Otherwise, he'll be playing TE/WR for us but he should be able to lock up a QB scholly some place else.

He'll be starting in the next 2 years. Best passer, big arm talent we've seen in a long time (except for MM). His stats are solid 64% completion rate, throws a great deep ball, fast release, can run with deceptive speed but runs strong (unlike Mr Lockie). This is our next big hope. While Waller is a little faster, he's not accurate. This kid is amazing.

All, this kid is the real deal. Very strong arm, good speed, strong runner, accurate, very accurate. Forget offer, of all the QB video I've seen he looks to be fabulous. They barely lost to Jesuit in what... he's 3rd or 4th start. He can flick the Ball on the run with accuracy. This is another 2 or 3 star who fell under the radar due to injury and being an essential player/pitcher towards winning the state bb championship for Sheldon. Don't get caught up in star rankings. With limited film his skill, accuracy, reads and ability jump out more than any I've seen. Mark my words, he's not only a D1 QB, he looks to have All-American. I would be surprised if they haven't been planning on dumping Seth for this kid all along and just needed to give him a nudge out so that they can offer. This kid is a winner...I'm not saying MM but best film I've seen from any of our QB's in the last 4 years. Great decisions, super quick release, strong, great pocket awareness, ability to read defense but more than anything, super accurate. You all should be a ton more excited about this kid. He's fabulous. They just needed some film and the ability to get Seth Green off the books so they could offer him. Bet money it's coming in the next week or two.
