We need a coach who takes D seriously. Did you see what the mutts did last night? We will never beat UW again with a 100+ ranked defense. We need a coach who can win games when the O isn't scoring 50 points.
Exactly. If we want to run a fast-paced offense, we need to be playing 22+ on defense. Aliotti figured it out (with Chip's help), Pellum lost track of its importance, and Hoke had no clue to begin with.

This may sound odd but he strikes me as an articulate/alpha dog version of Helf. Their voice even sounds similar. But also, a similar blend of self-deprecation and (attempted) humor. Given that one of the knocks on Helf was his lack of alpha dog-ness, I suppose this would be an improvement. What I want to know is whether he can spot and develop diamond in the rough and underrated players and innovate on the field. Those are the keys to success at Oregon.

Which he has shown he can do. And he can recruit like no one we've had here.

lol at people who are afraid he might be a douche. Chip was/is a douche and we all want to build a statue for him. All GREAT coaches are confident in their abilities.

Yep and they never recruited any trouble players and never had any sort of controversy in their coaching history....

Fleck is NOTHING like Saban or Urban Meyer or Chip. Fleck is smooth, relies on a type of charisma, slick talker. Those guys are terse and hardass. Anyone who's making that comparison needs to watch a video of each of them talking and compare.

Well one of those is a basketball coach, I was talking about what works in college football.

Peterson is the exception.

I disagree about Peterson. My understanding is behind is public personality he is actually an a-hole. Not uncommon among coaches.

I suspect he is. As is Sabin. I've heard BSU's Harsin is similar. Like Trey pointed out above, those guys are not anything like Fleck.

Are you talking about Rob Mullens, the UO AD, or Dan Mullen, the Mississippi State HC? I've seen so many people confuse those guys' names that it made entire conversations absolutely confusing.
