US Army All-American Bowl (Sat Jan 7 10am PST NBC)
Roster:
#12 QB Tua Tagovailoa (Committed to Alabama, but Oregon is constantly in his hear. At least worthy of keeping an eye on)
#23 CB Deommodore Lenoir (Still officially uncommitted, but he's basically a duck)
#56 LB Sampson Niu (OREGON)
#96 P Adam Stack (OREGON)

I'm pretty sure that Tua has already signed his financial aid paperwork with Alabama

Yeah, I doubt he goes anywhere but he can still back out but the school cannot.UOducksTK1 wrote:It's non-binding though fwiw.alabamaduck wrote:I'm pretty sure that Tua has already signed his financial aid paperwork with Alabama

Among the standouts from Day 2 are DL Rutger Reitmaier and Lenoir.

Looks like OSU got a commit from 4* WR Jamire Calvin. Sounds like he's still going to take some visits so it may not stick. Oregon is supposedly getting a visit so he may flip due to them being a dream school for him. Not sure why the previous staff never offered this kid.

Lenoire has had a couple of nice plays including a nice kickoff return. The announcers keep referring to him as an Oregon commit. Did I miss something?

Either they don't realize he decommitted or he's sending off a vibe in their interviews with him that make them think he's all Oregon.wlduck wrote:Lenoire has had a couple of nice plays including a nice kickoff return. The announcers keep referring to him as an Oregon commit. Did I miss something?

A pleasant surprise was Niu doing quite well in his time on the field. Seems that the West defense got off the field pretty quickly whenever he was playing. Had great instincts, filled gaps, and was a sure tackler.
One thing that stuck out was when they were discussing Tua and basically asking how the heck Helf and Co. botched his recruitment. Basically said Tua was a kid who grew up a Duck fan and should have easily been an early Duck commit, not just getting a token offer late in the cycle.

It was also tough to listen to the commentators mention the fact that Helfrich and his coaching staff dropped the ball on Tua's recruitment. They stated that Tua waited and wanted to follow MM8 to Oregon.....but Helf drug his feet. Meanwhile, Tua got offers from USC and Bama. By then it was too late. Thank goodness the Helf era is over and we now have a helluva recruiter in Coach T! We may not get all the top recruits....but at least Coach T and his staff are trying! #Scoducks!Duckattack7 wrote:Hurts that Marlon T is going to Udub.

And to think, people were mad and wanted to keep Helf aroundpolyduck wrote:It was also tough to listen to the commentators mention the fact that Helfrich and his coaching staff dropped the ball on Tua's recruitment. Took me until after the Stanford game to realize Helfrich probably needed to go.And to think, people were mad and wanted to keep Helf around
After seeing the immediate impact to recruiting, I'm now actually thankful that Helfrich is no longer HC. Sad, but true. Taggart is so much more proactive about recruiting. And it's not just about his awareness of social media, or that he understands the tremendous value in communicating with the media, but that he's also assembling a rock star staff of "known-commodity" coaches who will attract top recruits.
Willie Taggart is a dick.

I was absolutely disgusted listening to the announcers talk about how we butchered the Tua recruiting process. They were literally laughing at how bad we screwed that one up. Coaches have to be the best Salesman on the team and Mark was just an average nice guy. He needs to stick to analytics. Listening to Mark talk was just flat out uncomfortable at times. So glad we can get back to building the exciting young, hip brand that attracts kids. Trying to turn Oregon into the golden ticket vs going out and making kids feel wanted will never work in this day and age. Enjoy your money Mark, you sure as s*** didn't earn it.
Have a great day if you want to!
