To start, they were married to the concept that once a player commits, there's no backing off, which they did to establish a reputation of trust on the recruiting trail. The issue therein is that you can't offer the 3* guy you like until the 5* guy you like better tells you he's in or not. So that caused delays in recruiting.

One of the things I really like about how Chris Petersen hits the recruiting trail is that he finds guys relatively early (sophomores, juniors) who his staff perceives as being underrated and recruits the hell out of them. They'll offer 5* guys, but they will also go after 3* guys who they really like and recruit them like they're 5* while every other school is giving them a lukewarm recruiting pitch. What you need in order to be able to recruit this way is a lot of faith in your own eye for talent, which the previous Oregon staff just apparently didn't have.
That technique completely ignores that 17-18 year olds are designed to change their minds and tend to make decisions based on emotions instead of logic.

It's like a 45 year old expecting his 18 year old date to act like a 45 year old.

Building trust is great, but that doesn't mean you can ignore biology.

You have to meet the recruits where they are.

Guys can we keep the comments to things that actually pertain to Burmeister? We all have our opinions about the old coaching staff but this is not the place to discuss it.

This was updated one hour ago. Found on DT. Not sure it's the final nail, but looks like we missed:

But the writer on Twitter said he's yet to hear if that's the actual plan. Sounds like we'll have to continue waiting.

Yeah, the article is getting called out as not final word. I will wait for an official announcement. Apologies for the quick trigger.

Link to the article update posted on Tuscon.com this morning http://tucson.com/sports/arizonawildcat ... afdb5.html

Also appears we may be irritating the 'Zona fanbase.

Very weird for that guy to run that story and then say he has no new information. Especially to peg it on a vague, "the Star has learned."
Willie Taggart is a dick.

Zona and its fans need to get use to being at the bottom of the south for years to come. Any sane kid, would jump at a shot to go somewhere else.

At this point I'd guess he's not coming (inner Hines there!) Since classes started today and no reports he's on campus. Just thinking out loud not trying to be negative.

Classes didn't start because of snow.
