That's what I thought. Hope this doesn't turn into another "Chip is coming back!" lolscoducks wrote:Wait.... isn't he supposed to interview with WMU tomorrow?OregonDonor wrote:And he will be an assistant head coach. I guess that could have come up since, but I'm pretty confident in what I'm hearing. Guess we'll know in the next couple days.scoducks wrote:Wait.... isn't he supposed to interview with WMU tomorrow?OregonDonor wrote:And he will be an assistant head coach. Re: Mario Cristobal hire?
A DT poster said Cristobal was on his way here when WM called. He is taking the interview. If he doesn't take the job, he's coming to Oregon. If all that is true, we are in wait and see mode. And if he's being named the Assistant Head Coach, wasn't Joe S. just given that title?

Re: Mario Cristobal hire?
I thought Cristobal was only getting the OC title, not assistant HC. If anything, I'm sort of surprised Leavitt didn't get assistant HC (given his experience), unless he didn't ever want that title.ifuwant2 wrote:A DT poster said Cristobal was on his way here when WM called. Sorry, that was for the previous poster who's connection told him that Cristobal was going to be named Assistant Head Coach. Point: poster with inside information may have some facts wrong, which makes his source unreliable.greenyellow wrote:I thought Cristobal was only getting the OC title, not assistant HC. Or I am mistaken and Joe S. wasn't given the title of Assistant Head Coach. Or everybody is right and Cristobal is coming and we're going to have 2 Assistant Head Coaches.

You can have more than one asst HC. Joe and Mario can BOTH be AHC. They could make every coach an AHC if they really wanted to.

I'm probably in the minority, but it's hard to get excited about a guy who would obviously only be using the Ducks as a rung on his ladder and might be gone as early as next year, leaving the team looking for the next guy. Seems better to just skip to the next guy. Or maybe they are all on their way up a ladder. Anyway, not what we are used to at Oregon, but I guess times are a'changing.

Yeah, you're going to have to get used to coaches coming and going. It's how the normal college football world works, the blue bloods hire good assistants who eventually move on to bigger and better things.Phalanx wrote:I'm probably in the minority, but it's hard to get excited about a guy who would obviously only be using the Ducks as a rung on his ladder and might be gone as early as next year, leaving the team looking for the next guy. Yeah...I understand there is moving around, but it seems like there is a spectrum of mobility, and Cristobal seems more likely to move sooner rather than later. I'm not sure how good that is for a program, especially given how attached recruits get to specific coaches. Anyway, guess we'll see what happens.DuckedOut wrote:Yeah, you're going to have to get used to coaches coming and going. Re: Mario Cristobal hire?
Leavitt would be more likely to leave before MC. WT hired a monster staff full of people on the up and up which comes with the negative of them possibly leaving sooner rather than later. Thing is though you only leave if you can get 1 of 3 things. More $, better program, better position. We have 2 of those, $ and program, working in our favor.Phalanx wrote:Yeah...I understand there is moving around, but it seems like there is a spectrum of mobility, and Cristobal seems more likely to move sooner rather than later. More on topic, unless MC kills it at his interview I don't see WMU offering him the position. He's like the 4th guy they're interviewing, seems like an Oregon situation where you keep interviewing even though you know you're probably going with your first or second pick.
