The key quote from Taggart in this article is the one where he says the lack of leadership and apathy amongst players is the worst he's ever seen it. He even had to call coach Harbaugh Senior to let him know how bad it was. Taggart is making sure everybody knows he walked into a mess. Both true and a smart move.

Read that one. Very good read.

You get the sense that Helfrich was utterly incompetent as a HC.

Thrilled to have Taggart, after the past couple years which include Pellum, Hoke, and IDGAF Neal mailing it in.

I LOVE all of the things that Taggart is bringing to the program. The written ethic, discipline, and leadership are things that Helfrich let erode and if Taggart is able to reinstill those things then I believe we have enough talent to be good again quickly. I can't wait to see tre differences that Taggart makes on the field next year. And I think in 2 years this team will be elite again.

Funny old story

Post by nogerO »

An old story. Guy takes a new job. Asks the old guy for any ideas.
Old guy says, "take these two envelopes. Open the first one when you get into trouble. Open the second if you get in trouble again"
New guy gets into trouble, opens the first envelope. It says blame everything on your predecessor. He does, and it works.
Six months goes by. In trouble again. Remembers second envelope, and the first worked so well.
He opens the second envelope and it says:
"Prepare two envelopes"

I do agree with Willie however, it needed to be torn down because the foundation had big cracks in it.

This belongs in the Autzen Stadium section of the board.

You don't agree that Helfrich let everything go to pot?

The good thing about this as it relates to recruiting is that Willie will have a lot of opportunity to rebuild quickly. It looks like we'll be able to take 25 in this class and I believe there are currently 22 seniors on scholarship for 2016-17 (barring anyone leaving the team). With natural attrition, he might be able to take 25 in each of the first two recruiting classes. It looks like this year could be heavy on WR, DL, and CB, with next year being heavy on OL and LB.

I guess the good thing about having so many scholarships available in his first two classes is that he'll be able to remake the team is his image fairly quickly and the younger guys already here will have had time to buy in.
