Oregon Recruiting Spreadsheet 1994-2017

Post by 5$ »

Here's a little spreadsheet I created detailing Oregon's coaches, records, and recruiting class ranks for 1994-2017.

Thanks. Helf and co were trending downwards in all facets of the job.

Held and friends were actually pretty consistent in recruiting. Also, let's not forget that Helf's hands were tied by Chip's usage of Will Lyle's. As much as people forget about it, it most certainly has had an affect on roster depth.

Yep, and his boss oversaw it. 100% fair to blame Chip. Point remains that Helf's staff was handcuffed yet still pulled top 20 classes consistently.

2006 actually gave us some studs. Thran, Jordan Holmes, Kaiser, Paysinger, Bair, Mathew Harper, and Tupou.

Only one class in the last 13 years that wasn't ranked in the top 30. Impressive.

Added more detail, including the breakdowns of 5* 4* 3* etc... Too much info for the image, so I collapsed those columns and showed the average star rating per player.

Interesting that the average star ranking was about the same, if not a little better, under Helfrich. He just had smaller classes. If he'd been pulling in 26 guys every year like Chip, these would have been top 15 classes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the new staff and recruiting strategy. It just stood out to me.

One thing that affects the rankings is that after Oregon went to the Natty in 2010, its recruits/commitments got more exposure and their individual rankings became more inflated than before.

Updated again as of today. Please note the we went up 5-spots in the average ranking since Thursday last week.
