One absolute fact that can't be argued, HS OL are the hardest to project and evaluate of any position. Most of these kids aren't facing guys their strength or size, day in and day out. If we are going to reach for a kid, OL is the place to do it, and I'll trust Marios evaluation over most people's.

Definitely agree with this. It appears that Taggart is going to take at least 25 kids in this class and I'd prefer a project OL over a so-so 5'8 slot receiver. I also agree with most here that Kirkland's film isn't very impressive.buckmarkduck wrote:One absolute fact that can't be argued, HS OL are the hardest to project and evaluate of any position. I have to be patient and think that Mario must have seen something in the kid. Good enough for me.uostudent wrote:Definitely agree with this. What Mario saw is a project. You can't teach big. He also knows about his Dad which is a genetics play.nogerO wrote:I have to be patient and think that Mario must have seen something in the kid. Jaxson is by no means physically developed and the leap between his JR film and SR. film is significant. He is not a natural athlete,,..yet! He has good upper body strength but terrible core, lower body development and flexibility. He appears to be a late bloomer and they are betting on that. If he doesn't bloom in 2-3 years than adios. However, he's a 5 year kid and could be good but again a pure project. They need the JUCO tackle (visiting this weekend) who is significantly better than anyone targeted to-date. However, Bechton could be tremendous in 2 years so let's hold hope for him. That said, Jaxson won't see the field unless it's a massive blowout for 2-3 years. He would get crushed against a legit DE. He is however, 6'7 and 300+. His dad wasn't a late bloomer, only 6'3 but did play in the NFL so lets hope for the genetics to kick in.

I guess we should all just pipe down and not have opinions! Case closed - Thanks Damacus!damascusduck wrote:Who do you trust? Taggart, MC and the rest of the staff. Or internet recruiting experts. I know where I stand with that question.
But more seriously, your opinion and logic is totally fine. I'm not sure why you take issue with dissenting opinions, though.

My opinion is just that, mine. Isn't that what a message board is for? Reading some of the posts above, you'd think he's lucky to get a Pac 12 offer, when in fact he has a decent offer list. I guess I trust the coaches opinion more than mostly anonymous internet evaluators.

Right, you said that. My question is about why you have an issue with people who use the web as a platform to discuss what they see on film or in person.damascusduck wrote:I guess I trust the coaches opinion more than mostly anonymous internet evaluators.

Where did I say that? I said I trust the coaches evaluation more. That is all.
