Gabe King Needs Season Ending Knee Surgury
http://www2.registerguard.com/cms/index ... -the-year/
Gabe King missed South Eugene’s loss at North Medford Friday and he could be lost for the season with a torn lateral meniscus in his knee, South coach Travis Johnson told me this morning. King is planning to get a second opinion but he will likely need surgery that could end his season.
King, a 6-foot-5, 265-pound senior rated as one of the top defensive ends in the nation, played only one game for South Eugene against Willamette. He transferred to South last month after being declared ineligible to play in North Carolina due to questions regarding his residency.
Johnson said King is unsure when the injury happened but the knee started bothering him so he went to a doctor and got the results prior to boarding the bus for Medford on Friday.
“He may have done it the first day of practice or maybe before he got here,” Johnson said. “He never had the feeling of tearing or swelling so he may have tweaked it in a game.”

Wow, that stinks for a kid who was trying so hard to get involved.
Season ending? I wonder if they will attempt a repair, rather than removal of the offending cartilage?
Best of luck with the recovery.
Hope the Ducks stay on him...

Well, the nice thing is the Ducks know a little something about torn MCLs. Hopefully, he'll look at our track record with rehabbing knees and it will make his decision a little easier!

If true, will he move back to NC?

King has been selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American game in January and will receive his jersey during a ceremony prior to South’s home game against Roseburg Friday. Johnson said King plans to stay at South Eugene and is working on some senior projects in hopes of graduating early so he can possibly get to whatever he college he chooses in time for spring ball.OregonMAX wrote:If true, will he move back to NC?

I thought the reason he left North Carolina was so he could still graduate on time this year. He won't come back here (NC).

Looks like they jumped the gun a little. King will probably only be out 2 weeks and back in time for the oct.30th game against sheldon. (Saw it on a Steve Mims post register guard)

Re: Gabe King Needs Season Ending Knee Surgury
South Eugene coach Travis Johnson said he talked to King’s mom this morning and she said the latest from doctors is that “his meniscus may not be able to be repaired and if it can’t, they would go in and clean it up and he could be back in two weeks”.
So what does this mean for a long term prognosis? Will the knee be "good as new" or weak and an ongoing problem?
We need Woundedknees professional opinion.

A sign that he's suppose to be a Duck?

As long as "he's quacking like a bunch of ducks", then I'm a happy man.
Glad to hear his injury won't be season ending.

Re: Gabe King Needs Season Ending Knee Surgury
No pro here... Just lots of the wrong kind of experience...
If the torn meniscus cannot be repaired, it would probably be best to remove the offending piece.
The thing can float and wedge in odd places, resulting a the "locked knee", basically meaning limited to completely obstructed movement.
If there is no ligament damage, 2 weeks is on the short side, but doable for a well conditioned athlete.
Gabe may well end up wearing a brace as a precaution, but the prognosis is usually pretty good.
If it does require this type of surgical intervention, sooner is definitely better, IMO.

Re: Gabe King Needs Season Ending Knee Surgury
I saw King at the North Medford game and Jhop and I talked to him for a bit (jhop did most of the talking). He seems like a really cool kid and it would be awesome to have him as a duck. South needed him to play in that game, with him in there I don't see how they would have lost. Gabe is a monster and towers above all the guys on the sideline. I can see why he gets doubled and tripled every play without even getting to watch him play.

Good news it's only two weeks. The kid has definitely faced some adversity the last few months, season ending knee injury woulda just been really unfortunate. Hope he's a Duck come LOI day!

It's more likely he's out for the season.brich75 wrote:Looks like they jumped the gun a little. King will probably only be out 2 weeks and back in time for the oct.30th game against sheldon. (Saw it on a Steve Mims post register guard)
Also, he's back to favoring Cal. Liked that visit more than the Oregon one. It's certainly not set in stone tho.
Also, Keenan Allen is indeed all Bama right now.
