Re: Falo to USC
According to Biggins it was such a close decision Falo recorded to endings to his commitment video, one Oregon and one USC version. Came down to comfort with his family. Really tough miss here but when family is involved we're almost always at a disadvantage, no matter how good at recruiting our staff is.

This class is fine considering how hard transition classes are on a new staff. Sure, we didn't close like we wanted, but a top 25 class is good. I bet Helf wouldn't have done any better.

I don't think that's fair. It's okay to be disappointed and it's okay not to call Taggart a recruiting god when evidence doesn't really paint him as one. His biggest turn was Graham who already had teammates and friends committed to the former staff. His pulls from Florida were all three stars who he had already recruited to South Florida for the most part. That's not to say his three stars won't turn out to be players, but a lot of schools pulls three star players and you might extend them all the same benefit on the doubt at this point. We'll see in a few years Taggart's eye for talent and character. Right now, I remain unconvinced Taggart is worthy of praise compared to the dogmatic lambasting that Helfrich gets with practically every post.

This and the Artis one hurt the most. Such a bummer.. I feel like McKitty, Robinson-Carr, and Falo are gonna regret this. Our depth chart is pretty open right now, which isn't a common thing at UO.

I do find it strange that no one bit at the opportunity at early PT. Just shows that location and long-standing relationships can be even stronger pulls. Coaches need to hope the TEs they do have can hold up next season before they can get reinforcements in 2018.UOducksTK1 wrote:This and the Artis one hurt the most. Such a bummer.. Doesn't help that we don't have a TE coach since the Reaves incident.greenyellow wrote:I do find it strange that no one bit at the opportunity at early PT. Just calling it like it is. I'm not surprised since they didn't have a ton of time but the class is straight up pretty average. I even saw you say in the NSD thread it hadn't been a good NSD soooDuckedOut wrote:Man...I haven't been here long, but you just seem to be always overtly negativeUofO8 wrote:well this class got average pretty fast

Re: Falo to USC
It hasn't been a good NSD but they did sign a good class overall, one that is unanimously ranked in the top half of the conference by all the scouting services. It just could have been better if they'd closed on a few more guys.UofO8 wrote:Just calling it like it is. Re: Falo to USC
It's a little sour when we were pretty confident in landing Falo, Artis, and Falaniko to finish signing day. So that is a little disappointing. But to see our class finish in the top 25 (even top 20 on one site), I feel like that's pretty solid given where we were 2 months ago.

Re: Falo to USC
If Lenoir commits, Oregon will be at #20 in 247Sports' rankings and will likely move up even more in Rivals and Scout's polls. They could very well be top-20 on all 3 of the major scouting services. Considering where they were before, that's not bad. It'll certainly help restock the talent level at certain positions and hopefully get Oregon back to winning. Seeing how Taggart was able close with such limited time and finishing as close as he did for some top-ranked guys, they'll be in much better position in 2018.UOducksTK1 wrote:It's a little sour when we were pretty confident in landing Falo, Artis, and Falaniko to finish signing day. Yeah, it hasn't been a good NSD at all and I never said that it was, but we still ended up with a top 20 class after a 4-8 season. I'm ok with that.UofO8 wrote:Just calling it like it is. Another positive is that we did not let anyone get flipped to another school. Keeping Redd and Verdell were victories within itself. It is way more comforting not losing anyone in the last minute like the disaster of last year.DuckedOut wrote:Yeah, it hasn't been a good NSD at all and I never said that it was, but we still ended up with a top 20 class after a 4-8 season. PAC 12 network said it was the second highest rated class in the league this morning, according to Scout. That's pretty good when you figure Washington and Stanford are in our rear view mirror.UofO8 wrote:well this class got average pretty fast

Will this class have a major impact on our aspirations of returning to the CFP? I know, I know, "who knows." But just standing here today and looking at the metrics you have to conclude: probably not. Today (not next fall and not four falls from next) you cannot conclude this class is 'solid.' It's alright, maybe decent. Was hoping for better, but it's hard with the amount of time the coaches were given. 2018 will truly be the proving ground for the new coaching staff's much praised recruiting prowess. I'm personally hopeful. I think we will do very well, now that the alcoholic wonder is off of the staff. But if these guys can't recruit to Eugene ladies and gentlemen, the success of 2009 to 2015 will be a vastly more fleeting notion than we all would hope. Our offense is now a dime a dozen, we are not surprising anyone anymore. Without the 'croots, we better get used to the middle. Like that piece of bacon in a club sandwich. You guys put the bacon in the middle right? If not, your totally doing club sandwiches so wrong. Shame on you. I'm hungry.greenyellow wrote:From where they started and how much time they had, they finished fairly well. Was it what we hoped after all the news and rumors? Debbie downer. This is not accurate. A.) we are moving to a different offense, more pistol than spread b.) we had a frosh QB and Oline c.) Our D' was beyond abyssmal. This wasn't necessarily a talent issue as much as an experience and coaching issue.General Dripps wrote:Will this class have a major impact on our aspirations of returning to the CFP? I'm calling my shot right now with the talent we have and real coaches who understand strategy and tactics. We will be no worse than 8-4 next season. Don't be surprised if Leavitt turns our D into something special. We have a real D'line coach, a very real LB coach, etc, etc.. This is the most hope I have had in 2 years. Leavitt is the real deal and no way these kids don't turn it up a notch. Everyone want's to point out recruiting as the sole difference but that is so untrue. Look at the Pro's, they all have wicked talent. It's how you use it, how you develop it, your scheme and fundamentals. There's no way these guys will practice half-ass anymore. There's no way they won't be looking over their shoulder in practice. The fact 3 guys pushed it says everything.
We will once again be tough.
