I guess on to next year with a bare bones TE unit. Maybe Taggart didn't think Moses Robinson Carr could play, but something tells me he would have been better than an open scholarship.
If there's one miss or hole in this class, it's definitely at TE. I think missing at the TE position takes this class down from a potential A- to around a B+/B.
I'm still VERY happy with the class, especially considering that Lenoir, Verdell, Rutger, Redd and some others were in danger or not coming and Willie convinced them to sign.
As for the lack of TE and edge rusher, those are painful. We've got guys who can come off the edge (Bryson Young, Justin Hollins) but I don't know what we're going to do at TE. If Tristan Wallace didn't do an awful thing to ruin his future he might have been a perfect fit as a WR-type TE. Maybe the staff considers moving Kampmoyer over to offense, I thought he was a better TE than DE/OLB coming out of high school, but he was the scout team's best player on defense. Breeland, McCormick, Mattingly are not exactly an awe inspiring position group but I would love to be proven wrong.

Yeah, TE is a tricky issue. Mattingly was phenomenal in high school at TE and his issue isn't hands or physical ability it's defensive instincts. I'm a little more bullish on him at this position and think he should have moved there last year.I had forgot about Kampmoyer.
Breeland and McCormick will do well if they can both stay healthy but that's a big IF so likely Briscoe or Kampmoyer need to move to TE.
I think this would be much better for Kampmoyer, while good on scout team, he'll likely never start and at best is a rotation player on the DL down the road. He could be a good fit at TE especially in short yardage.

I'm going to play "wait and see" at TE, especially with Mattingly. The kid was rated a 4 star (by Scout) as an Athlete coming out of high school. The old staff evidently recruited him to play defense, but that doesn't mean he doesn't still have decent offensive skills. Hopefully he plays well enough to get integrated into the offense early so he can improve as the season progresses.
