You're exactly right but he's certainly getting it done on the recruiting side of things, which is the lifeblood of any program. We can only hope all of this momentum he's gaining translates to the field.Oregon Ownage wrote:Lets calm down, he hasnt even coached a game yet. All this means nothing if they cant win on the field

When you don't have a single player for the first time since the 80's, I think you learn something. Player evaluation was bad the last few years. Really bad.

I think it was more a lack of player development than anything. Some of the graduating players were highly touted and had offers from programs all across the country. They just stopped developing at some point. That's on the old staff.jimmy12 wrote:When you don't have a single player for the first time since the 80's, I think you learn something. That's a little scewed, with a decent season Carrington and Freeman would have both declared and been drafted somewhat high.Phenom wrote:I think it was more a lack of player development than anything. Yeah but they had bad years last year. Again, some of that is on the staff and last year's environment. Some of it on them too.brich75 wrote:That's a little scewed, with a decent season Carrington and Freeman would have both declared and been drafted somewhat high.Phenom wrote:I think it was more a lack of player development than anything. Ok--- Let's un-skew, 0 from last year's Senior Class. That says a lot to me. Player development was lacking and player evaluation/ identification was poor. (isn't that what Nick Allioti also said?)brich75 wrote:That's a little scewed, with a decent season Carrington and Freeman would have both declared and been drafted somewhat high.Phenom wrote:I think it was more a lack of player development than anything. For a program like Oregon to throw up and O-fer on the draft is really telling. We all want them to succeed. We fall in love with players, but in reality, we didn't do a great job of bringing in top talent.

Oh don't get me wrong I'm not arguing for the last regime. The development was terrible. I'm just saying we easily could have had a couple draft picks. I personally will take the 0 and get back Royce and Carringtonjimmy12 wrote:Ok--- Let's un-skew, 0 from last year's Senior Class. That says a lot to me. Getting a big 00 in the draft is alarming. But not as alarming as the obvious lack of talent in the defense.
Remember how Pellum couldn't pull a decent LB to save his life? Remember how none of those guys ever developed?
The helfrich years set the team back. Outside of a few guys, there's hardly any talent at DB, LB, DE or DT.
Not to mention the QB fiasco.
If we see some of the also rans from the past few classes turn it up in the fall, I think we can say development was way off.
I'll be looking for juniors and seniors to step up with their play.
Helfrich was so bad, a real black mark on the program

Crosby , Carrington, Freeman would have all been drafted if they would have left. That + the 3 TEs that all signed makes 6 players.
So lets stop with the OMG OREGON DIDNT HAVE ANYONE DRAFTED so it shows how bad the program was narrative.

I think it's safe to say that the evaluations on defense went down the tubes.justducky0 wrote:Crosby , Carrington, Freeman would have all been drafted if they would have left. That + the 3 TEs that all signed makes 6 players.

But like I said before, I think it's mostly development

I think it's safe to say you didn't say anything at all. Were you actually even referring to my point or just making a random statement?Duckenstein wrote:I think it's safe to say that the evaluations on defense went down the tubes.justducky0 wrote:Crosby , Carrington, Freeman would have all been drafted if they would have left. Guarantee you Taggart wouldn't have blown it with guys like Baker and Juju.
Fall should be interesting, but you have to remember, year 2's can be rough. Saban lost to an FCS school and CPete went 6-6 with a lot of talent.

What do you mean by "year 2?"GrantDuck wrote:Guarantee you Taggart wouldn't have blown it with guys like Baker and Juju.

uhmm dude. No one was drafted this year. That is a fact. Sure, had some of the underclassman gone out they "may" have been drafted, but they didn't. So, no one was drafted.
