Fall should be interesting, but you have to remember, year 2's can be rough. Saban lost to an FCS school and CPete went 6-6 with a lot of talent.
Neither Saban or Pete had a 1st round pick at QB leading their teams either.

Sorry, but what has happened the past few days means that Helfrich was a HORRIBLE head coach. Recruiting is a huge part of being a coach. If you're that terrible at recruiting on top of your team losing often... that means you're a horrible head coach.

Shouldn't this (another thread bashing a good guy who turned out to be a not so good coach) be in the other guys? Since it has little to do with recruiting but gives people another opportunity to bash someone.

Mods should lock this thread and any other future ones concerning Helfrich. Dead horse is beyond beaten .

Thats my point, he hasnt coached any of these kids yet. Ask Texas and Notre Dane how great their recruiting classes have been lately.

We wont know anything about this "great" start to recruiting until two years from now

We aren't going disallow posters from talking about the previous regime because it hurts peoples feelings.

The Helfrich era was a significant time in Oregon football history and has almost everything to do with the major change happening in program now. Wanting fans to ignore it and mods to censor any discussion about it is honestly really weird.

It's only natural to compare the new coach to the previous one.

Well sure, but nothing new has been said about it in months. It's a cliché at this point and I don't think it's that weird to want to move forward onto newer topics concerning Ducks football

With Chip it was a good thing, the team had some swagger to it but they completely lost that under Helfrich. It is a completely different team out there now and it is good to see the enthusiasm from Taggart influencing the players.
Completely. Chip brought swag, we lost it with helf, you can feel it coming back. Excited for the season.

I think it's worth bringing up after we land 7 commitments on one weekend. That's record breaking for UO.

I get where people are coming from regarding the exciting and noticeable uptick in recruiting and how lackluster it was under Helf, but to me it just seems mean spirited and pointless to continually refer back to Helfs failures as a head coach. In my opinion it doesn't really add anything to the discussion of the current recruiting cycle and I've seen previous threads get locked for redundancy. Certainly not trying to tell you how to do your jobs but I think the "Helf sucked" narrative has run its course. We can be extremely excited about Coach T without dragging Helf through the mud.

It's not mean spirited to point out that Oregon can now recruit on a higher level after being told for years that the problem was location.

The reality is that we've learned that the problem was the previous coaching staff. Not location, not something else.

It's central to what's happening now.

Why is any comparison of Taggart's staff to the previous regime considered mean spirited? Helfrich drove the program into the ground and we're not even halfway out. I'd say criticism in relevant to the discussion.

If it's 2027, and people are still talking crap, yeah you'd have a point.

It's not like Helf was 10 years ago. We are what we are right now thanks to his lack of recruiting and more importantly the staffs lack of evaluation skills. UW grew during the last 3 years by grabbing kids the other staff missed judged. We wanted Baker, but told him he would play slot, and he really wanted to play safety. We barely gave King or Jones the time of day, and Vita Via wanted to be a duck in the worst way, yet he didn't pass Helfs super secret background check. UO could have had 9 of the starters on Colorados D, but our guys just either didn't do their jobs right, or didn't coach up the kids they liked better.

I'm not here to bag on Helf, but if Helf lovers are going to get mad about facts, then here are the facts. Helfrich never should have been a HC period. He could have offered Levitt a ton of money to MBA the D.C. 3 years ago, he could have hired almost anyone better than Pellum and Aiken, one couldn't coach the other couldn't recruit. And both got Helfrich fired. And I doubt he's ever a HC at a major university ever again. He didn't recruit the Sacramento area, and look what Willie has been able to land in just 6 months by going back to Sacramento. He didn't like to recruit Fresno (1 recruit in 4 years), and neither did Chip(only Nacho I believe), but again we missed on a lot of talent there and now WT goes back there and gets a top 80 player. WT is taking what Bellotti did, and super sizing it, with a staff of A+ recruiters.

+1. Helfrich and staff got too stubborn about avoiding talent-rich areas close to home in favor of going to far-flung areas that the coaches couldn't hit as hard or quick. Oregon lost out on lots of talent from CA because they got too gun shy about potential bad apples.
