Some of this is on Chip and Mullens, too. Chip was adamant that Helf be his successor and Mullens listened to him. I could tell from the get-go, it would fail. Helf proved me wrong for a bit but then the Alamo and last year happened.

Helfs staff also never had coaches arrested for dui. Or player hospitalized in off season workouts.

Helf was a terrible coach, get over it.

Probably one of the worst in the entire history of CFB.

He will never get a HC gig again, and it looks extremely unlikely he would get a look as coordinator at this point.

If you can't deal with that, don't read threads that may contain some criticism of Helf's performance as Head Coach.

To be fair though, were they actually working out hard enough to even get sore muscles?

One thing I miss about Helf and his staff is all the great tweets they sent out to the fans! Oh and remember all the times DP and Helf ran out on the field after a great play and gave the player a chest bump? The energy they created was just mind boggling! What a mistake they made by getting rid of Helf and his staff.

I miss "a million little things" comments about why they lost games or gave up on touchdowns. 10 guys doing the right thing and one wrong and they score.

It was painful. Really painful.

I realize he was in way over his head. Was not a good head coach. But to continue with the negativity towards someone ...just don't get it. He's gone turn the page. Here's hoping that wt can coach as good as he can recruit.

I defending Helf way too much during his spiral, people resist change. Many of us had no idea how terrible of a job Helf and his staff were doing until the new staff got here and rolling, night and day. I don't see it as bashing Helf as much an excitement toward Willie and crew....... you can see it with the players, the fans, the coaches........ I don't feel one bit sorry for Helf, he's a multi millionaire over the deal, he's taking a year off and enjoying his young family. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he's still feeling some sting, but he's not at home searching the want ads hoping his unemployment check comes today.

I dont see anything wrong in comparing the past and the future. As long as people
stay civil with each other. Most of the previous coaches were a part of Oregon football
for a long long time. I will always have a spot in my heart for those guys. But they also lost
touch with the times. They were inept at recruiting in todays social media times. We are now
seeing what it should look like.
College football is always changing and coaches have to change with it. I think that the former
coaches believed if i offer they will come. They lost players by slow rolling them. This new staff
if anything is aggressive. They may have thrown out more offers then the previous couple of years
combined..lol.
I liked Helfrich as a person and loved his passion as a duck. However i never really bought into his
always saying its a process and secrecy behind everything. That does not stir up a fan base and
may even turn some people away. Now we see most of everything. Sure they need to keep somethings
in house. But the energy is contagious not just with the team and coaches but with fans as well.
In just a few short monthes we will get to see if that energy turns into wins. Willie has to win sooner then
later. We all want Oregon at the top. He wants that as well. He has said he wants to be the first african american
to win a national championship as a coach.. We all want that as well..

Continually discussing the previous head coach is a bit like talking about an ex-spouse after a divorce, maybe it makes one feel better but to many it comes off as vindictive and petty. I'm fairly certain Willie T would say to blame no one and look forward.

Okay, just an analogy........ my ex wife was a slug in bed, she never wanted sex, she would just lay there and take no action to make things better....... my new wife is aggressive, goes after it, when she's done she starts immediately to go after more, not afraid to talk about it....wow! What difference, what a huge smile I have.......... yea I may want to tell my friends how happy I am now! It's not petty at all, it's ridiculous to be offended by simply innocent conversations.

Thanks, that was simply the point I was trying to make. Everything that people have said critical to Helf's coaching acumen and recruiting philosophy I agree with, and it was definitely time for him to go. I also understand that it's natural to compare past coaches with current, but this is all been done ad nauseam. Nothing new concerning Helf has been discussed since LOI day and I've seen other threads get locked for redundancy. Every success WT has with recruiting doesn't need to come with a snipe at Helf, that's all I was trying to say.

It's the biggest recruiting weekend in Oregon history and y'all don't expect fans to compare the Helfrich staff and others......
Get over it, if you don't like it or agree with it, don't read it. Quit trying to control what others have a right to express because you are either tired of it or you don't agree with it. Maybe the Mods can create another topic on the index page that is titled Safe Space, and y'all can tell each other in there how unhappy you are about what's being talked about in a certain thread and not hijack the actual thread.
