This thread has stayed pretty much on-topic and civil about the recruiting differences between Helf and Taggart, except for the people complaining about the thread's topic. If you don't want to read about it, don't open the thread. I'm sure there'll be other threads comparing Helf to Taggart once the season starts again because it'll only be natural for some to compare, so you don't have to read those if you don't want to.partytime1667 wrote:Thanks, that was simply the point I was trying to make. Everything that people have said critical to Helf's coaching acumen and recruiting philosophy I agree with, and it was definitely time for him to go. I also understand that it's natural to compare past coaches with current, but this is all been done ad nauseam. Nothing new concerning Helf has been discussed since LOI day and I've seen other threads get locked for redundancy. Every success WT has with recruiting doesn't need to come with a snipe at Helf, that's all I was trying to say.maxduck wrote:Continually discussing the previous head coach is a bit like talking about an ex-spouse after a divorce, maybe it makes one feel better but to many it comes off as vindictive and petty. I liked Helfrich as a coach almost till the end, but....

Seriously, the only thing derailing this thread are the busy bees butting in to tell other people how to behave.

People will say and think what they want. If someone wants to talk badly about the old coach, that is fine. If someone wants to stay quiet about it, that is all good as well. You can't do anything about it and this was just the previous season.maxduck wrote:Continually discussing the previous head coach is a bit like talking about an ex-spouse after a divorce, maybe it makes one feel better but to many it comes off as vindictive and petty. That is the truth. They are clearly WAY more concerned about a few comments than they should be. Also, Helfrich does not care about any of this... so it does not make any sense for them to care.Duckenstein wrote:Seriously, the only thing derailing this thread are the busy bees butting in to tell other people how to behave.

A take so hot, it would make Canzano and Bayless blush.Duckenstein wrote:Helf was a terrible coach, get over it.duckfan96 wrote:Helfs staff also never had coaches arrested for dui. Or player hospitalized in off season workouts.
Probably one of the worst in the entire history of CFB.
He will never get a HC gig again, and it looks extremely unlikely he would get a look as coordinator at this point.
If you can't deal with that, don't read threads that may contain some criticism of Helf's performance as Head Coach.

I have no problem discussing Helfrichs poor recruiting, but it should be pointed out that like everything he did, it was a continuation of Chips philosophy. And the difference in class ratings between Helf and Chip aren't that much. This staff is just significantly better than any staff we've had at Oregon when it comes to recruiting.

He's making 11 million this year to stay away from the program, and still people get their panties bunched because someone points out he left the team in a lurch.

If you disagree with someone's opinion then post a disagreement. If you just can't handle negative opinions of Helf then you shouldn't read the threads. Simple.
I have to add: It's pretty rich that there's posters wanting to limit discussion on a forum, a site dedicated entirely to discussion.

One final thought. Our worst spot the last 2-3 years was arguably DB, yet if you watched the draft there was more DBs picked than ever before. Some crazy amount(I know 21 taken before Seattle drafted their first db in the 3rd) and somehow our coaches couldn't have found any? Neal literally 3-5 years ago had his pick of really good HS safety's and corners, but miss evaluated everyone he took? If he just gets that right, we win 7-8 games last year. Recruiting is the lifeblood of a program, and WT and his staff are going to work their butts off everyday to get UO the best recruits.

I agree that we missed, but I don't see 7-8 games in there. The team was a leaky faucet. I have not seen run gashes like that before. Brady Hokes, "I like to hear the defense" and a 10lb play book were garbage. That was not a personnel issue. It was a coaching issue.

I thought I heard that Neal hated MH and Pellum so much that he completely checked out?buckmarkduck wrote:One final thought. Late to the parade. Don't have time to read all the posts. Just wanted to not waste too much of my time and say, geez, Helf was awful for the millionth time. And still I think it needs repeating.
