Re: 2018 Oregon Commit List
Nemec just posted on his FB page that there's another silent from a 4* recruit that should become public sometime this week.
Edit: And now it looks like Taggart is talking about it with his signature Ring, Ring, Ring tweet.

Oregon is suddenly cool again and in the hands of someone like Taggart, that Nike connection will pay huge dividends for recruits.Duck07 wrote:I think Taggart loves his relationship with Nike. Willie Knows, lol.

Re: 2018 Oregon Commit List
Any speculation as to who it may be (the verbal Willie is referencing in his tweet)?

Lol, Willie is awesome. I hope it works out with him. If he is able to get things rolling over the next few years, his swag will make winning even more fun than it normally is for us fans.greenyellow wrote:

Hop said he's sworn to secrecy, but it's a big time commit.DmoneyDuck wrote:Any speculation as to who it may be (the verbal Willie is referencing in his tweet)?

Re: 2018 Oregon Commit List
I think considering his source is supposedly Darrian McNeal's uncle and which big-time uncommitted recruit McNeal played with, it's sounding like Malcolm Lamar.buckmarkduck wrote:Hop said he's sworn to secrecy, but it's a big time commit.DmoneyDuck wrote:Any speculation as to who it may be (the verbal Willie is referencing in his tweet)?

Re: 2018 Oregon Commit List
Based on what people are saying over on DT, it's not Lamar that Taggart's tweet is referring. Some people are saying it's nobody that people have talked about in a while and Braden Lenzy dropped hints about Georgia and #1. Put those together and those tweets seem to be pointing to OLB JJ Petersen, the #1 OLB in the nation who happens to hail from Georgia.
Edit: Saw someone else point to DE/OLB Andrew Johnson out of Tipton, GA.

Re: 2018 Oregon Commit List
Nemec just said he knows of 3 silents (didn't specify if they're all 2018 guys or possibly some 2019 ones) plus the newest one that popped up on Taggart's Twitter so we're looking at potentially 4 more recruits committing this week. This would be huge.

Re: 2018 Oregon Commit List
What? Hop talks to most of the coaches every few days. At the Portland vet together a couple months back a couple coaches came by even. He's not relying on family members of current players for info.greenyellow wrote:I think considering his source is supposedly Darrian McNeal's uncle and which big-time uncommitted recruit McNeal played with, it's sounding like Malcolm Lamar.buckmarkduck wrote:Hop said he's sworn to secrecy, but it's a big time commit.DmoneyDuck wrote:Any speculation as to who it may be (the verbal Willie is referencing in his tweet)?

Re: 2018 Oregon Commit List
The almost-certain fact that Justin Hopkins and other 'insiders' rely on current coaches for their information is relatively new to me. I used to think it was all operations people, current players and prospects, family of prospects, etc. In trying to assess the incentive for coaches of leak information, it seems like the insider basically has to pledge loyalty to the program and become a pseudo recruiter, otherwise what incentive does a coach have. I don't know why, but it's really interesting to me and I don't know how I feel about it.

Re: 2018 Oregon Commit List
Coaches can't talk about recruits. Talking to guys like jhop gives them the option to leak info without technically breaking the rules.
Leaked info keeps fans interested and develops hype for the recruits. It's a symbiotic relationship, like the press and pols.
