If it were my choice, I think I'd rather take on the USC, UW, Stanford, etc challenge every year than to try to be the guy to unseat Nick Saban in the SEC, or try to be the guy to rebuild Nebraska in a conference with Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State, etc.
No freaking way on Frost. I think he is going to get exposed when he takes a bigger job.
I got to meet Mr Frost when he was on staff. First impression was total arrogance. Thought the same in
interviews on TV. And was not sure he was really any good calling plays as well.

Hmmm...very interesting. I wasn't aware of that.

Arrogance and Assholery are almost a prerequisite of big time college coaches. Some coaches are better at concealing it at the public level than others.

Frost is an alpha from an alpha family in an alpha profession. His mother is a trash talking, coach, active senior track competitor, former Olympian and his real father is probably Zeus.

We should have a Scott Frost thread. I could post a link to a letter to a Michigan Football board purportedly from Mama Frost that is epic.

As for me, I think the chances of WT going to Florida are remote. If he did and Frost had the choice of Nebraska and Oregon and he picked Oregon I'd be thrilled to have him. I always thought he'd be a better Head Coach than OC. I know about what he said about recruiting but it is out of context as he was promoting his new School and it's advantages. He was doing his sales pitch.

"It's hard in those places because we're just not in close proximity, Oregon wasn't and isn't in close proximity to the fertile recruiting ground. At the end of the day, recruits have to decide to leave southern California, or Georgia, or Florida, or Texas, where there's some other pretty good schools, and go all the way to Eugene."

Not sure that's exactly a sales pitch. Maybe some anti-recruiting but I don't think UCF is really competing with Oregon, nor is Oregon competing with UCF. A sales pitch is what his other statements in the same interview are, but saying that it's because Oregon isn't fertile recruiting ground doesn't hold with me. That's laziness. If all of the schools on the East coast can recruit their respective coastal schools like Georgia recruiting Pennsylvania, Florida recruiting Ohio and what have you, then I see no reasons as to why Oregon wasn't able to pull more big-time recruits from California, Arizona, and Washington. Heck, Chip established a (questionable) pipeline to Texas which dried up after his tenure. While I don't think he's a lazy guy, or not able to coach/recruit I don't want someone who openly says that kind of statement, since it never needed to be said. But that's just my take on things.

Well yeah, if you leave out reporter’s question, the beginning and end of his answer it might seem like it’s not a sales pitch, but let’s go up to the booth for an instant replay:

Mid interview ...........

Q: What is it like recruiting, particularly being located in that geographic area (Orlando), compared to the recruiting you've done over the past six or seven years?

A: Every kid in the country wanted to come to Oregon. They saw how we played, they saw the facilities, they saw the uniforms, the winning. Everybody was interested in Oregon. I'm telling recruits down here they don't have to go 3,000 miles away to get that anymore, Oregon just came to them.

It's hard in those places because we're just not in close proximity, Oregon wasn't and isn't in close proximity to the fertile recruiting ground. At the end of the day, recruits have to decide to leave southern California, or Georgia, or Florida, or Texas, where there's some other pretty good schools, and go all the way to Eugene.

It's great being in a place where those kids that want to stay close can stay here, not to mention it's a lot easier to get kids to visit our campus unofficially, there's a lot more kids here to choose from.

----------------------------------------------------------
So he was specifically asked what the difference was in recruiting between Eugene and Orlando and gave a truthful and honest answer. He didn’t dis Oregon out of nowhere. Most of the interview when he says “we” he is referring to himself as a Duck other times as a Knight.

There are lots of better reasons to not like Frost besides an old non-contexted quote. May I suggest silver spooned athletic career, lack of adversity in life, ambitious, overconfident, arrogant, kind of an ass. (I myself don’t have a problem with any of these things in a D1 HC)

I guarantee though that people (not you) who use that old out of context quote to imply he is lazy or not up to a challenge don’t know much about the Frost family. He’ll recruit top 5 when he goes to Florida. (He’d recruit well at Nebraska or Oregon too in the role of closer. Winners gonna win.)

Since when is being somewhat arrogant a huge flaw in a head coach? Last I checked, that perfectly describes guys like Belichick. If you're looking for Mr. Perfect... good luck with that. Or root for guys like Helfrich.

All coaches are arrogant, even Helfrich. I'd even say most successful people are arrogant when doing what they do best. If you're not confident in your abilities, then what are you doing?

I just didn't like Frost because of his wonky playcalling.
Willie Taggart is a dick.

All you have to do is look at what Taggart and his staff have done so far with this class in order to refute Frost's statement. In addition, Chip Kelly had some excellent classes, too, one being ranked #11.

The bottom line is that there are excellent players everywhere. All Oregon needs to do is rebuild their reputation over the next 1-2 seasons, keep the staff intact (hopefully) and get 20-30 good players every year. Their biggest concern is building depth in the trenches and at linebacker. If they can do that consistently the Ducks should be a power most years.
