EXACTLY my point!
But nobody has said they were unimpressed with Colin. There's no argument to be had here in that regard. Like other's have said, sometimes you whiff on a guy you don't offer or you do offer someone who doesn't commit. Guys also commit and are busts. It happens. Nobody is saying they wouldn't want Colin Schooler right now, but rather that there were justifications for not offering because that's recruiting. You can't really say "why didn't we offer this guy he's playing out of his mind and above his rating" when it comes to guys like this. Prime example, Marcus Mariota was horribly projected as a recruit. Do teams say we wish we had him? Probably but nobody is really going to say "WTH WHY DIDN'T WE OFFER THIS 2 STAR OUT OF HAWAII." There was no indication of Colin Schooler's potential. Arizona was his only P5 offer.
Tl;dr Does it suck? Yes. Was it a poor choice in the moment, no. People only care because his brother is on the team.

"As for his brother he is standing out on a pretty bad defense and I don't remember seeing him make many plays last week anyways so I don't think it's that big of a loss."
Others on this thread are 'upset' (that's overstating it, imo) because they're looking at this kid who would be a 4-year starter at Oregon play for someone else when we would have had him without even much effort put into his recruitment.

Happens every year.
We'd all trade him for his brother in a heart-beat now, but what are you going to do? I'm not going to hang around and be pissed a two coaching staffs because of it when every other school in the PAC and even SD State passed on him. Everybody missed but AZ.

Justin Hollins, Jonah Moi, and even Jimmy Swain as of late. And our freshman linebackers aren't there yet you're right but sometimes kids come in and then regress but only time will tell.

I did say that because Arizona's defense is pretty bad. He's for sure one of the better players on their defense but thats honestly not saying much. Would I like to have had him? Hell yeah but I'm not losing sleep over the kid.

The coaches really like Winston too. Willie says he's been playing like Troy lately.

I forgot about him even though he is a hybrid he's a beast! Was a big reason to holding Khalil Tate to 32 yards rushing was setting the edge all game.

I'm pretty sure S.T.U. was talking about inside linebackers as that's what Schooler plays. Colin wasn't heavily recruited because of his size. Scooby Doo recently finished a great career at Arizona so they were less shy about a short linebacker. So Oregon passes on the smallish kid then end up starting Apelu who makes Colin look like Shaq. Oh well.
The funny thing is, Schooler wasn't hidden in the weeds, he was all conference as a junior and D-MVP as a senior in one of the top 10 toughest and highly scouted HS conferences in the country. But he's only 6' in cleats so the scores of Colleges that were recruiting his lesser teammates and opponents all passed.

His brother had a pretty accomplished high school career too. That's why it's so weird that between the two of them they had only one P5 offer. I have to wonder if a coach was bad-mouthing the family or if there were some kind of issues or something. That's where the mind goes when things don't add up.
Grandpa is accurate in saying that Hollins (who can't play inside) isn't really what I was asking. The comparison/theoretical trade is more apt when talking about Sampson Niu, ISM, Apelu, Keith Simms, Hotchkins (transferring but has eligibility), and perhaps Lamar (who is outside but I could envision doing something like Dye). The only one of those that has even comparable present-day skills and as much upside/longevity is Winston.

You just hit on my wish list. I think they should try Winston inside next year. While not an ideal MLB frame, he is bigger, longer and faster than most of those other guys, can make a tackle and beat a block. He may not make the transition like Dye did, but I'd like to see it tried during those cupcake non-conference games as his ceiling is likely much higher than the others.
They did, but unless a guy is built like Hollins, I think don't think it's static. Swain has gone in-and-out, and I think Simms is likely in that position, as well. We'll know this spring.

All those awesome Fr LB T UA held our running game to a measly 350 yds, while our terrible LB could only hold Tate to 32yds and UA that avg in the mid 300 coming in to 169 yds. Schooler looks fine, but don't confuse him with Scooby Wright.
