Another 2009 Early Poll

Post by gofightingducks »

ESPN Top 10 for 2009

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/ind ... dman_bruce

DUCKS AHEAD OF USC!!!!! :P

1. Florida: I would have had the Gators #1 as long as Tim Tebow came back, but the fact that LB Brandon Spikes, the leader of the Gators' D, returned too makes this even more solid.

2. Texas: Colt McCoy is coming off a superb season, and he gets to throw to his pal Jordan Shipley, who returns for a sixth season. UT still needs to establish its ground game more, but the young secondary should be much better, and having LB-DE Sergio Kindle back will spark the pass rush.

3. Oklahoma: No one came out better after seeing who didn't leave for the NFL. It starts with QB Sam Bradford and DT Gerald McCoy, who will anchor the D. I give UT the slight edge here, because the Sooners lose a bit more on the offensive line.

4. Oregon: Whether it's Mike Bellotti running the show or coach-in-waiting Chip Kelly, this team will pile up points, and I'm going with a hunch that it's going to be a good year for the Ducks. They might not have a bunch of guys who were listed as starters returning (only nine), but they do have a lot of players with plenty of game experience and an exciting strong-armed QB in Jeremiah Masoli. Defensively, the secondary could be a concern, but if they can survive a tricky start to the schedule, they get USC in Eugene. Given all that the Trojans have lost, this could be the year the Ducks unseat Pete Carroll.

The Ducks are already getting some early preseason love, depending on who we still get in this class and how the spring and fall camps go I wouldn't be surprised to see the Ducks in the top 10 to begin the season. The Ducks only lost one underclassman (Byrd) so they have some veteran playmakers returning on D and of course have Masoli and Blounton the Offensive side as well as some exciting players ready to make a splash. And the Ducks have a difficult yet favorable strength of schedule. I am excited for next year!

That's ridiculous. I love the ducks as much as anyone on this board, but I'd almost feel guilty about being ranked 10th. 4th is outrageous.
That holiday bowl win must have impressed the heck out of them, must be why they gave us 4 TV games this year too.

The only good thing about the early press is that we won't have to climb to far if we play well. If we start 10 or better and beat Utah and Boise State we will be the darlings. It's a long ways off and my concern is the players believing to much of this stuff. Masoli seems like a good leader, my concern is on the defensive side of the ball. Who is going to replace Reed and Chung?

I think ESPN feels were gonna make a run next year. 5 tv games already, and it makes sense with all the coaching changes at USC. It could happen here's to goin to play in the rose bowl twice next year!(Though neither game would be "The Rose Bowl")

This has to be a pre-emptive marketing move to build hype for next year. Our matchup with BSU looks a lot more appealing if we are both ranked in the top 10.

4th wow that's sound great but I have to agree with jhop it sounds a little high but I'll take it!

How about this quote below the article...

"Oregon picked up a nice commitment for the 2010 class when it landed one of the fastest players in the country in running back Ethan Grant from South Florida's North Broward Prep, reports Larry Blustein."

NICE!

When you've got a high level QB and an offense that reloads and not rebuilds, a top 5 ranking seems fair to me.

He is right about returning less people but I am feeling better about the upcoming year than I did last year at this time.

I hope that recruits are looking at this article.
